No heart beat at 8 weeks

I've had an early pregnancy scan today, I'm supposed to be 8 week on Sun, there was no heart beat and the embryo looked the size of a 5 to 6 weeks pregnancy. Is this always bad news? I've been sent to the early pregnancy unit on NHS for a re scan next week and a blood test.

I've had a MMC in March this year and I'm dreading going through the same again Sad

Hoping for the best.

I’m sorry to hear this. It might be that your dates are off (say you conceived at the end of the cycle) and then perhaps 6 weeks would be more accurate. Try to stay positive if you can and I hope for good news at the next scan.

Leenaleena · 28/12/2019 11:10

@Krazynights34 thank you. It looked awfully similar to my last pregnancy, so hard to stay positive. I think I'm more upset about the possibility of another horrendous miscarriage rather than the pregnancy loss itself.

I was wondering though if there realistically is a chance that it could be a viable pregnancy, even though there was no heart beat? Has anymore got something positive after being told that?

If your dates are out and you ovulated later than you thought then you could only be 5 or 6 weeks pregnant, in which case it's not unusual to not see or hear a heart beat yet! I thought I was over 7 weeks going from my LMP but i had a scan a few days ago and the baby only measured just over 6 weeks but had a healthy heart beat. Fingers crossed it's the same for you at your scan next week.
Hoping for good news for you OP xx

Hiya. I had no heartbeat at 5 weeks, went back a week later and there was a flicker,so all is not lost yet. Its a horrible thing to go through.xxx

Ispy123 · 28/12/2019 11:34

Plus like me your dates could be well out
Xx

Leenaleena · 28/12/2019 12:14

@Ispy123 all the best, you've gone for a scan really early, at 5 weeks there is very little chance of a heart beat?

OP posts:
Leenaleena · 28/12/2019 12:20

@Ispy123 I think I did ovulate later than usual as we didn't have sex during what I thought were my fertile days (relatives around for a while), so I was surprised to get pregnant, but I wouldn't think it would be 2 weeks.

All the best with your pregnancy xx

Hope you're dates are just a bit out and all will be well Thanks

misselphaba · 28/12/2019 13:22

Sounds like you ovulated late in your cycle so you may well be less than 8 weeks. I ovulated around day 24 so if I'd have gone for an early scan I'd have been 10 days out and would've panicked.

Boymummy3 · 28/12/2019 14:32

If you ovulated a bit later and then implantation has to happen etc then it could be your dates are just wrong. From my lmp I was technically 14 wks... Went to scan and was only 9 weeks. Went to my dating scan and was again a week further on. Alot of early pregnancy scans are not too accurate regarding measurements. Of course I don't want to get your hopes up and I hope you get the best outcome but untill you have your scan try not to worry and 5/6 weeks is too early most of the time to see a hb so your looking more towards 7/8/ weeks when one can be detected x

Megabustravelling · 28/12/2019 14:51

Hope everything is okay for you. I had a scan at 8+5 and no heartbeat which resulted in a mmc sadly. I'd had a scan at 6 weeks that showed a heartbeat and I knew exactly when I ovulated due to temping.

xxchlobo90xx · 28/12/2019 15:03

Fingers crossed for you! Xx

Leenaleena · 28/12/2019 17:44

Thanks everyone for your kind input. I've started to bleed tonight, so I don't think I expect any good news now Sad. If there is any positive, at least it's happening early. Last time I miscarried 3 days before my dating scan.

I wish you all the best with your pregnancies xx

So sorry @Leenaleena 😢 xx

Nannewnannew · 28/12/2019 17:50

Leenaleena Oh I’m so sorry that you are going through this, I did have some blood loss many years ago during early pregnancy but fortunately all went well and resulted in a full term baby, so, I really really hope the same will be true for you.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you and wish you the best news.

Hithere2 · 28/12/2019 23:14

I am so sorry.
