Hi Everyone,

Pregnant with my first baby.

Had two nose bleeds in the last 12 hours! Never had one before in my life!! Ive read on the NHS that its perfectly normal. Has anyone had any experience of them/put my mind at rest!?

TIA :) x

Have you checked your blood pressure?

HDready · 27/12/2019 16:27

I had a nose bleed pretty much every day for the first six months. My consultant (who I saw for something entirely different) said it was completely normal because you’ve got increased blood flow when pregnant.

Nosebleeds are not an indicator of HBP.

They just happen sometimes. Maybe you have a clogged up nose and blew hard on a hanky, or maybe you are a bit of a sporner and ahem, pick now and then!

The tissue inside the nasal cavity is very soft and prone to bleeding. If it stops within five or ten minutes I wouldn't worry too much, but mention it at next ante natal appt.

I had a massive one this time last year. Bled for ages, was so concerned that I jumped into the shower thinking I would need A+E, it was like Psycho. But I pressed down for ten minutes, as advised on the dr.google thing, and it stopped eventually. Did not move my head up or down for a week. Am very wary of getting another TBH.

Hi

I have been having them more or less daily from about 18 weeks (am 27+5). As long as they stop they are absolutely fine. My midwife advised it was a normal symptom in some pregnancies. I try to avoid blowing my nose too much.
They are really annoying though and I now own shares in Kleenex.
If you are worried check with your midwife but mine said it was just another unfortunate symptom.
X
PS I did get my blood pressure checked as did have a similar fear around BP but it remained low, so no relationship there for me.

It's normal. I had a massive one randomly one morning followed by another the morning after. I dont normally get them but my friend experienced them in pregnancy as well so I wasnt worried x

I had nosebleeds at breakfast time every day throughout my twin pregnancy.

ThinkPink71 · 27/12/2019 19:33

Thanks everyone!!

You don't hear about this until they happen...it was 4am and I am thinking what the hell now!! BP is normal & Ive had my 5 month scan so knew all was fine.

So reassuring to know its normal :) xx

I’m 48.I have only had 2 nosebleeds in my life, when pregnant. I have always had good blood pressure (110/70)

I had lots with first pregnancy too. None with second. Was very awkward at work but nothing more than that.

Congratulations btw.
