What should I expect to see on a scan at 7+5?

I.got my BFP at the beginning of December but I'm overseas and not got my booking in appointment till mid January when I'll be 10+4.

I was hoping I'd be able to stay calm and wait till then but it's my first pregnancy and I'm 37 and I'm worrying about every little thing so I've booked an early scan for today (I'm 7+5).

Can anyone tell me what to realistically expect? I don't want to get my hopes up about heart beats etc if it's likely to be too soon.

Thanks in advance.

Probably a teeny tiny bean.

Not a lot at all

No heartbeat either

Congrats though x

cushioncovers · 26/12/2019 10:09

You might see a flicker which would be the heart beat but other than that just a tiny blob

Perid0t · 26/12/2019 10:10

If your dates are right, you’ll see a heartbeat and a blob.

Frazzlerock · 26/12/2019 10:11

You should see a heartbeat at 7+5 unless you have your dates wrong. A heartbeat can be detected from 6 weeks, but more likely from 7 weeks. I wish you lots of luck. I know how anxiety inducing scans are. Mine's tomorrow when I'll be 8 weeks (from my working out)

Flukz1988 · 26/12/2019 10:12

Hey, I know it's a worrying time isn't it. I went for a scan at 6wks3days and saw my little bean with a heartbeat. So hopefully you will too. Lots of luck x

anxioussue · 26/12/2019 10:18

I saw nothing on the scan at 8 weeks, just an empty sac. At nearly nine weeks I saw a bean with a heartbeat,

anxioussue · 26/12/2019 10:18

Oh and my dates were spot on.

sel2223 · 26/12/2019 10:22

Thanks everyone, I'll keep everything crossed theirs a heartbeat then as my anxiety will be through the roof if not!
7+5 is from the first day of my last period and I'm 100% sure of that date but I'm not sure of the exact ovulation date as I wasn't tracking.

At 8 weeks, you could see already that it was a baby with me. I mean, there was a head and a stomach and the beginnings of arms and legs. Decent heartbeat too.

twoturtledove · 26/12/2019 10:25

Here was my scan at 7+5 for reference. It's like a jelly bean! You can't hear the heart but can see it beating.

What should I expect to see on a scan at 7+5?
peachgreen · 26/12/2019 10:26

Honestly, and I mean this with kindness and as someone who has been there, I personally wouldn't have a scan before 9 weeks as the potential for not being able to detect the heartbeat and therefore spending the next week panicking is just too great. I really hope you see what you're hoping for though but try not to panic if not.

twoturtledove · 26/12/2019 10:26

7+3! Sorry

WatchingTheMoon · 26/12/2019 10:29

@twoturtledove

At my first scan (8 weeks), you could definitely hear the heartbeat.

twoturtledove · 26/12/2019 10:32

@watchingthemoon unless I have severe baby brain, I am confident we didn't hear the heartbeat. I know this because we heard it for the first time at 16 weeks with a Doppler during some extra checks. Everyone experiences different things so I was sharing my experience for the OP Smile

sel2223 · 26/12/2019 10:35

Thank you ladies, it seems everyone had different experiences between 6 and 9 weeks so I will try to go with an open mind and not panic about things too much.

@Peachgreen the normal, sensible side of me knows you are 100% right but I just can't wait any longer. I'm not sleeping worrying about every little thing so I'm praying I'll get a little reassurance from today's scan but also posted this so I can keep myself calm if not xx

I seen heartbeat at 6+3 abdominally!! Made me feel so much better. Most likely be fine at 7+ weeks

KittenVsXmastree · 26/12/2019 11:27

The heartbeat is a flicker of brightness on the screen, not an actual heard sound.
DS1 was nothing at 6 weeks, kidney bean with a heartbeat at 8 weeks.
DS2 was a jellybean with a heartbeat at 6 weeks.
All scans were NHS and abdominal (ie not dildo cam!), and needed due to prior history.

WatchingTheMoon · 26/12/2019 13:13

@KittenVsXmastree For me, I could hear it. They did a vaginal scan for me and it was clear as day (and a shock because I had only found out a few minutes before that I was pregnant!)

WatchingTheMoon · 26/12/2019 13:13

@twoturtledove Sure, I wasn't saying you were wrong or something Confused

Cuckoobananas · 26/12/2019 13:45

It depends on the equipment and if they do an internal scan..i heard and saw the heartbeat at 7+2 with my first however different hospital with my second and i only saw the heart beat, didnt hear it until the 16week appointment with a doppler.

MuchTooTired · 26/12/2019 13:52

I saw two little beans and two little flicking heartbeats at bang on 6 weeks (ivf babies so knew exact dates), and heard their heartbeats at 9 weeks.

sel2223 · 26/12/2019 15:12

Thank you for all the responses. I went for my scan today and ended up having an internal scan.
We saw our jelly bean and heard the heart beat too (apparently it was very strong). Baby measuring smaller than expected at 6+1 but going for another scan in 2 weeks to double check dates.
