Bad cough/feeling ill

I’ve had a bad cough/temperature since Sunday, temperature not so bad now but my throat is swollen and very painful, I can’t sleep, I can barely talk. I am 25 weeks pregnant, at what point do I need to seek medical attention despite it being Christmas Sad I am concerned about any affect on my baby!

What is your temperature? If it gets too high you need to go to A and E I imagine as it’s the fever that can affect the baby rather than coughing and sniffing etc, but you can try and keep it down long enough until tomorrow or the 27th with paracetamol.

I don’t have a thermometer, it’s generally controlled with paracetamol but my throat hurts so much I can barely swallow and it keeps me awake, I’m just at my wits end with it now

I am the same, tho temperature only started this morning/ last night and have cold/flu like symptoms like sore throat etc. Called maternity assessment and they advised paracetamol. I'm so hoping this temperature goes away tomorrow!

If you had a temperature since Sunday I'd probably call the hospital/ midwife to ask for their opinion? They'd probably want to know what your temperature is though, so worth getting a thermometer so you can keep an eye on that.

Nose spray for sleep (my ob said once or twice a day does not matter) and cloudy honey for your throat just before going to bed. Whatever you do, don't cough or swallow a lot after you've taken the honey as the film it forms at the back of your throat disappears quite quickly if you do.

Paracetamol for the fever, indeed. Though if you don't feel floaty, your fever is unlikely to be very high.

@starlightmagic no advice but I feel for you. I’m very early but my cough is so bad it kept me up all day and has had me nearly throwing up. Sad definitely seek advice if the temp persists.

@starlightmagic how're you holding up? My cough has gone a lot worse now, to the point where I can't sleep properly. Don't know if it's a normal part of having a cold or if it's something else. It's a itchy sort of cough

I called 111 and they asked me to go to hospital for a check over, throat was inflamed but they didn’t want to give antibiotics, I’m finally over the worst and have a productive cough but feeling much more normal, if a bit flat! I think I got about 5 hours sleep between Sunday and Thursday!

From experience, if you have a prolonged cough really remember to do your pelvic floor exercises!
