Last week i had a bad one. My pee was dead cloudy, i had some spotting when i pee’d, pain in my lower/sides of back, and felt generally run down. Ended up at emergency drs who dipped my pee to fine loads of ketones and blood in it. He suggested its likely a kidney infection and gave me antibiotics to take and bedrest.

Fast forward 5 days. Ive literally been horizontal in bed. Always sleeping, drinking lots of water etc. Except now ive gradually been struck with what i can only describe as stinking cold symptoms. Headaches, exhausted, sore swollen throat, throbbing neck glands, blocked runny nose etc. Ive took the odd paracetamol when ive had a migraine headache but thats it.

Is there anythig else i can take for a cols alongside antibiotics?? As in, lemsip or something? So far ive taken nothing and thought just sleep and plenty water would suffice but ive admittedly been defeated by my immune system and feel i need some form of cold/flu remedy, but im aware its likely only paracetamol thats safe to take but i dont feel ‘in pain’ to take them, and just feel something else to take the edge off abit.

Or any other home remedies? Ive gargled salt and water, had warm salt baths and tried olbas oil but so far, not touched the sides.

:( My scans tomorrow, all this just in time for Christmas. Typical!

It sounds to me like you need another course of antibiotics x I'd call dr when they open, you'll get priority xx take care

Niki93 · 23/12/2019 05:41

@thinkingcapon ive still got 2 days left of this course of antibiotics, so do you think its worth waiting it out till ive finished this course to see if im any better?

My backs no longer hurting where my kidneys are, no pain peeing and my pee is very clear, so i think the kidney infection is on its way out and isnt the problem anymore. Its a bloody cold driving me mad 😞its now turning into a sore cough. I dunno if i just need to ride it out and stop moaning really but i feel like i’ll get bed sores soon if i dont get well and actually return to normality. Urgh x

Unfortunately no decongestants during pregnancy so lemsips are out :(
May be worth starting with a pharmacist to see if there is anything you can take?

Antibiotics won’t help if you have a cold although obviously you need them for the kidney infection. Are you due to go back to GP, if it’s turning into a cough it may be more than a cold?
Get better soon in any case x

@Tini17

Aw im gutted about the lemsip but il not risk it. I think for today im going to just take some vit d&c supplements, drink water and sleep if i can. Not due to go back to GP, so think im just going to have to see this one through. Im hoping the next two days things start to get better. Feel silly just going to GP for a cough/cold but if it does get worse i’ll get it checked. Ive been fine through out my whole pregnancy then since 18 weeks BOOM im floored and my immune system has pummelled! Im hoping its just a seasonal thing. 😕 Thanks anyways xx

I seem to remember (my youngest is 7 mins!) that all you can take is Honey and Glycerine and Lockets. Probably best to check this with a pharmacist before taking either of these. You could try steaming your face over a bowl of hot water to help with the congestion?

Kayjay2018 · 23/12/2019 09:45

@niki93
I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and have been floored with a cold this last week. For the nasal congestion I can recommend sterimar which is a saline nasal spray, recommended by pharmacist, i then am taking boots throat pastilles when my throat is bad. After a few bad nights I took paracetamol and the above and sat slightly upright and got the best night sleep for a while. Back to full blown funky nose this morning but less tired. Hope u start to feel better soon as it really isn't nice!

Shock at my previous post!

“My youngest is 7 mins” should read “my youngest is 7 mind”. And actually, she’s 8. P
