Scan at 15+4

Evening All,

I am currently 14+4 with my first baby and we are having a private scan next Saturday at 15+4. Has anyone else had a scan at this stage and been able to tell (without asking or being told) what sex the baby is?

I booked a gender scan at 14 weeks with this baby... My last one I booked one for 16 weeks so yes they can tell at that stage but most private places will only tell you if you have actually booked a gender scan and not just a reassurance scan. Not sure which type you have booked in for x

Sorry I also read your post wrong lol but we could clearly tell baby was a boy he was flashing his bits but we only mainly seen because of course they took time to look between his legs properally. I don't know if they would do that otherwise x

Thanks @Boymummy3 they wouldn't allow us to book a gender scan until I was over 16 weeks as they can't guarantee they will be able to tell before then but I didn't have much choice re dates for this scan as we're getting it done in Northern Ireland whilst visiting the in-laws and wanted my MIL to come along as a surprise (she doesn't know we're expecting yet).

I'm hoping I can guess from this one but if not, we have our 20 week scan at the end of January so not long to wait 😊 x

14+4 may be early to tell the sex but you never know. What a nice thing to do for MIL :)

Is your 20 week scan an NHS anomaly scan? If so, a lot of hospitals do not tell you the sex (not gender) as that is not what the scan is for. Worth checking upfront.

It all depends on the place. We have some who do gender scans from 15 & some from 16. I found out the gender at exactly 15 :)

@Tini17 our scan is next week when I'm 15+4 so hoping it might be late enough to see a glimpse of something 🤞🏼

The 20 week scan is the NHS anomaly one and our hospital does inform you of the sex but will only do so verbally, they won't write it down.

It bugs me that it's referred to as a gender scan too but that's what it's called when you go to book. Clearly gender (masculine, feminine, etc.) isn't visible. Why they don't refer to it as what it is 'sex', I don't know x

I had a scan at 15 weeks and 4 days privately to find out gender as there are some places that tell you from 15 weeks so it's worth asking xx

Thanks for all your replies! Just a wee update... Had my scan today and I didn't need to ask. The sonographer asked if we wanted to know as it was apparently blaringly obvious (we wouldn't have noticed) lol ... It's a BOY 💙 x
