We just discovered today that i'm pregnant, approx 5 weeks so early days. Our son is 16, OH has 2 children from a previous relationship that have lived with us for 16 years aged 18 & 21. Just when we start to get our life on track & have lots of freedom, bam I get pregnant!!
I haven't been on contraception for at least 6 years as we were ttc but it didn't happen & we just assumed it never would.
After the initial shock, I think we're both a little excited, I am very worried about xmas though!! We have ALOT of family get togethers planned, were lots of alcohol is consumed, i'm thinking we should just tell everyone as they will know anyway. My SIL did the old antibiotics story a few years back, we all new the truth!!

Awwww this is lovely! Congratulations OP. Merry Christmas!!!

Awww that's lovely, congratulations!!! Could you make sure that dh and yourself get your drinks and have 'mixers' rather than wine or beer etc because you can easily pretend your coke is a coke and rum, your lemonade is a vodka and lemonade, your orange juice is a spritzer etc.

Have a wonderful Christmas and if you are happy to tell the family, go for it. My dad announced my pregnancy (I oked it) when I was 11 weeks at a family Christmas party as he was super excited to become a grandad and tbh after an awful death in the family we all needed something to celebrate.

This happened to us last year! We were spending new year with my parents and family 200milea away, it is also my step mums birthday the week after new year! I would never have gotten away with not drinking! We just told close family members Smile

I think I’d just tell people. We did at the same time of pregnancy and same time of year. I went in the theory that if anything went wrong with the pregnancy I’d need the support of my nearest and dearest.
Congratulations and good luck

Wonderful news, many congrats, a surprise baby how lovely. A cover story could be saving calories, by having food instead of alcohol, or why not share your happy news.

Congrats OP! My youngest sibling was born when I was 18, the other two were 16 and 15 so it was a massive age gap and I know how scary it can feel! I was so embarrassed at first which is ridiculous now as we were all so happy when she arrived. It was harder for my mum physically to run around after her (she was 40 at the time) but we were all old enough to chip in and help properly. In fact I was on a gap year before uni (working nights to save some money before uni) and I was able to look after her during the day in the first year, so my mum could return to work quicker. Spoilt little madam she is now Grin

Thank you everyone, we're crap at keeping secrets so I think we'll tell everyone soon, I want to tell the kids 1st, so need to do that asap!!

Annafs its nice to hear from someone that has been on the other end of this. I'm 34 atm, I was a young mum 1st time around.

Its so strange the things that flash through your head, like the dreaded school runs Grin

@kkr168 - our eldest is 14 next year and youngest 6 in a couple of weeks. We found out on Wednesday we are having our third! Shocked at first but very excited.

I’m 34 too.

kkr168 · 22/12/2019 17:13

If I can find one I'm going to get a babygro with born in 2020 or similar (think matalan sell them) & wrap it up for the boys to open xmas morning. I'll probably do the same with my mum & MIL too.

What do you think?
