Pregnant with a copper coil

Hi All
I have just done a pregnancy test and found out I am just pregnant but have a copper coil, does anyone know what I need to do now? Do I need to get it removed asap?
Also I had a smear test a couple of weeks ago will this effect the pregnancy?

Best thing to do is speak to a gp or midwife for proper medical advice I would say they will know what's the best thing to do. X

Definitely make an appointment with your gp as there is a risk of ectopic with the copper iud in place, I only know this as I had a pregnancy scare in October whilst having the coil in place and that's the first thing they told me. I have since had mine removed to try and conceive. Good luck, and congratulations 😊

I think I would make a gp appointment as soon as possible as you are likely to need a scan to rule out ectopic

The other consideration is - have you checked that the strings are still there? It's possible it has come out

Hi I am 30 weeks pregnant and fell on the copper coil. They scanned me and looked at how far away the coil was from the babg and luckily they removed it at 5 weeks because it wasn't to close. I went to a&e when I found out as I was scared it could harm baby. All has been well so far for me. Let us know how you get on

Hope all goes well at the doctors. Hopefully they can remove it without any risk to the baby x
