When the dates don't add up?

Just out of curiosity really I'm hoping someone can explain!

Happily expecting again and actively tried for the baby. I know my cycle very well and used ovulation strips and my app.
27/28 day cycle, 4 day period, sex on cycle days 13,14 and 15 only that month then bfp on cycle day 25/11dpo.

I was pretty confident of my dates and had my first scan when 12+4 only to be told my dates are wrong and I'm actually 5 days ahead and 13+2 so must have conceived earlier than I thought.
Knowing that to be impossible how would that happen? Does it mean I implanted very early on?

Dating on scan is based on the size of the baby at the time. You know your dates and are probably right.

I was given a date 5 days earlier than what I thought and guess what.. I'm currently 40+6 based on that scan date and no sign of baby yet! I wouldn't worry about it too much.. X

It's just an estimate based on baby's measurements. The due date is also only a rough guide anyway, only something like 4% are actually born on their due date. I wouldn't worry too much.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/12/2019 11:48

They are dealing in millimeters, its way to be out by a bit. I knew exactly when mine were conceived, my dates were moved by 1.5 weeks with one which I agreed with and not with the other despite the fact I have long cycles and both should have been moved. They come when they are ready anyway, the due date is just a guide.

Conception and birth is not an exact science. Baby will come when it comes. As long as you are both healthy that's all that matters.

Betsyboo87 · 19/12/2019 11:57

Mine is ivf so we know exactly when he was conceived but at my scan at 11+6 he was measuring 13w. Sonographer said the same as the pp that’s it’s hard to always be accurate and also babies have growth spurts at different times. They kept my due date as it was but if it had been natural then I’m sure it would have been moved.

pollysproggle · 19/12/2019 12:17

Thanks for replies! This is actually my third baby so I'm well aware the due date is a very loose estimate. It was just the sonographer being so adamant I had my dates wrong when I knew I didn't. My previous pregnancies were only measuring a day less than my dates so it's the first time I've been so ahead.

It's actually nice to be ahead this early on!

I had the same - a week ahead based on scan dates. I know exactly when I conceived so was a bit confused. But nice to be further along!
Congratulations!

I had this my last pregnancy (3rd baby). I knew I DTD only once that civile.

At the dating scan they put me a week more than I knew. I didn't think at that time it will be a problem.

I ended up needing to be induced and my baby was born at 37 weeks. She was actually 36, but I didn't remember. I had trouble with her latching and she got severe jaundice. I'm sure it was related to her being born so early.

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 19/12/2019 12:54

DC2 was estimated as a week older than she could have possibly been. I queried it as I knew my dates and I knew the night she was conceived but no one was interested.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2019 13:01

DD1 was apparently conceived when DH was in a different country.

pollysproggle · 19/12/2019 13:15

I'm not the only one then!
@R2D2abc I'm going to keep that in mind and my original due date as I could be induced with this baby.

Lol @Aroundtheworldin80moves

They always add on 14 days for luteal phase but I know mine is actually 22 days. I knew the date of conception with all my babies and none of the dates added up!

Newmumma83 · 19/12/2019 13:17

I was out 1 week ahead with my son ... he came on the due date I had worked out ... we had only had sex once that month I really couldn’t have been wrong 😂

AlwaysaLittleBitTired · 19/12/2019 13:21

Me too, but the other way around. They said I was 5 days behind where I thought. DD was 4 weeks early. They then suggested I got my dates wrong and I was a month ahead of where they originally placed her. Babies come when they come. My LP was 10-11 days at that time. DD born at 36 weeks, DS at 37. First scans with each were contrary to my own dates.

Good luck with everything!
