Hi,

I found out I was pregnant the other week and had some pain a couple days later so went for an early scan. The doctor found a small sac which was empty and also a large cyst on my ovary. HCG levels doubled as they should and had another scan today which was 6 days from the last one and still and empty sac...
I know the dates we had sex and were likely to have conceived which would make me around 4weeks pregnant.
I’m feeling a little lost..I have to go back for another scan on the 30th December to rule out a failed pregnancy or it could be that I’m just super early. I have no bleeding and I get occasional pain but nothing that is really painful.
Can anyone shed any light or has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

I think you are super early, i am suprised they scanned you the first time! Good luck for your next scan Smile

They wont see anything more until your 6 weeks xx

Mummylanie3 · 18/12/2019 20:30

At6 weeks I just had a sack went back at 7+4 and was baby and heartbeat think it's just too early xx

It’s really hard to even know what my lmp is as I have irregular periods with lots of spotting before and after so I never know for definite when I’ll be ovulating. I’m now concerned that I have scanned too early and due to my unknown proper lmp the next time they scan there’ll still be nothing and then intervention will occur (potentially unnecessarily) urgh! The worry is killing me!!

4 weeks is too early to see a heart beat.

CherriesAndWine · 18/12/2019 21:22

They tend not to be too concerned about not seeing baby and heartbeat until your hCG levels are above 2000. I doubt they'll intervene without checking your levels first.

Racoonworld · 18/12/2019 21:42

yes agree way too early. I had a scan that was dated 5.5 weeks and only a sac and yolk sac. by 7 weeks there was a baby with heartbeat. At 4 weeks not surprising you only saw the sac! Most places won't scan until at least 6 weeks for this reason.

MrsLaura89 · 18/12/2019 22:14

I’ve had my levels done, the lady today said she thought she’d see more today as they were just over 2600...I know everyone is different though so holding out for the 30th.
As for 4 weeks, I am saying about 4 weeks from conception not lmp, if it’s lmp I’d be further along but because of my irregular cycles I don’t even know when the first day of my last period was!
So frustrated and feeling really low x

I had an empty sac on my 5 week scan when my hcg levels were 4400

The following week there was a yolk sac

3 days later there was a foetus with a heartbeat ☺️

You’re scan is far too early to worry about - all it can do is ensure the sac hasn’t implanted in the wrong place

(I was also having multiple scans because of a cyst - mine ruptured and was bleeding. Ouch!)

PreseaCombatir · 18/12/2019 23:14

Hopefully it’s just too early. It’s not uncommon for there to be what looks like an empty sac one day, and then a foetus with a heartbeat a few days/a week later.

anxioussue · 18/12/2019 23:21

The empty sac I had at nine weeks is now a hulking great teenager. Hope it's ok op.

MrsLaura89 · 19/12/2019 07:47

Thank you everyone, I think even if there is still nothing there on the 30th I will hold out for another couple weeks because I do feel like everything is still very early xx
