Mucus plug or discharge?

I know this might be a stupid question but... how do you know the different between mucus plug and discharge?

Mucus plug is like clear hardish jelly and can be tinged with blood if it's near due date

I didn't see mine last time but from what I understand it's really, really thick gunk. And as PP said, it's often tinged pink. If your brave, Google images...

I remember thinking it looked strange. Can't remember why. Definitely not like any discharge I'd ever had. I knew it was the mucus plug and I went into labour that night

I'm 38 weeks and last night I had a huge handful of gunk come out I thought I had an alien invasion going on in there lol, there was no blood just like something out of your nose, I'm hoping this is the plug today I woke up had to run to the toilet and loads of tightening that is now getting crampy
