Hi I have just found out I am around 6 weeks pregnant with our 2nd child, unplanned total shock but also very happy now we’ve come round to the idea plus we did want another baby eventually:) our daughter is 16 months old..

But I’m so nervous about telling work I took a year off and have only been back 6 months, I’m worried they’re going to be funny with me and not happy about paying me maternity again. I work for a local council so I know they have to follow procedures correctly but, a lady I work with who has 2 kids is always being moaned about for not being here and now I’m starting to feel anxious xx

Well I mean the company aren't going to be thrilled about it, but you haven't done anything illegal, you are just claiming what you are entitled to. It's just something they are going to have to suck up. At least its LC and not a smaller company who might suffer from it.

You'll be fine. I know someone who did this three times a row and actually returned from mat leave already pregnant again each time.

LochJessMonster · 18/12/2019 12:03

^^ Sorry, realised that came across as quite negative!
Congrats on your pregnancy and don't worry about what others will think, you are entitled to maternity leave!

Haha it’s ok loch I did read it harsh at first 🤣🤣 thank you girls I’ll have been back at work 10 months when I do tell them x

Hi OP. I returned to work last November after Dc1. Found out I was pregnant again in May when they were 17months 😬 and am on mat leave now waiting for dc2. Work werent exactly thrilled, made worse as I was signed off for last 3months for illness and I don't intend to go back til Jan 2021 but they've been pretty good accepting it. I guess I'm getting my baby years out the way all in one go! You will be fine. Try not worry as that's definitely not going to help while you are pregnant. And congratulations!

I returned from DS1 and had DS2 nine months later. Returned from a year off with him and have just had DD1 20 months later. All my children were planned (not that it's anyone at work's business) and all my colleagues and boss were really supportive. You haven't done anything wrong and needn't feel anything other than happy about your pregnancy in my opinion.

Meant to say, I also work for a council. And they got more than a decade of work out of me before my first child was born, so could hardly question my commitment.

@Flower08 I'm the same. Only went back beginning of July and now I'm pregnant again and feel really weird and anxious about telling them in a few weeks...

snoopy18 · 21/12/2019 11:04

Who cares - that’s what they are there for you spend enough time working 🤷🏾‍♀️

I imagine they almost expect it TBH. It's not unusual to have that kind of age gap.
