OH has started to show flu symptoms suddenly last night. This morning he s in bed with fever red eyes headache shivers etc...
We are very close and have been until last night when i realise he s got the flu.

Now what do i do? I feel fine myself but i know that it might be dangerous for me and pregnancy. I didn’t get the flu jab this year.

Should i keep my distance? Send him to the doctor?

Try and keep your distance, wash your hands as much as you can. It’s possible you won’t catch it. Doctor won’t be able to do anything for him really.

Why didn't you get the flu jab? Why don't you get it now?
If you can't stay somewhere else until he's better then:
Wash your hands regularly, don't share anything: bed, towel, glass, etc. Rinse all of your cutlery/crockery before using it. Make sure you take comprehensive vitamins every day. Eat lots of vitamin rich fruit and veg - stawberries, oranges, green cabbage and broccoli are good ones.

I am trying to keep my distance now but we are living in the same room (temporary solution) so kind of difficult to have distance unless i sleep in the bathroom Crown Biscuit

In theory you could ask for Tamiflu for yourself, but it’s a bit of a balancing act in terms of risks because the evidence of safety in pregnancy is still an ongoing project - it’s probably fine.

I didn’t get the flu jab because when they started offering few weeks ago i was technically ttc and wanted to be at my best...
the pregnancy happened so quickly. I am 6 weeks today.
Also i know it ridiculous but it have a weird fear of vaccines. I am not against but the idea freaks me out. A bit.
Now obviously regretting not doing it ConfusedConfused

Pop to the pharmacy and get the flu jab today. They do it in lots of supermarkets now

Amanduh · 18/12/2019 08:48

Go and get the flu jab!

R2D2abc · 18/12/2019 08:58

Even if you get the jab today be careful to wash hands well, don't share towels and don't stay super close to him. I think it takes a big to the vaccine to take effect.

If you're getting the jab, tell the people doing it to you that you're husband has the flu. Also get him to go to buy some flu medicine for him, or you buy it for him.

So OH had a call with 111 who said he should get at least a telephone appt with GP.
GP called back and doctor told me he s indeed very likely having the flue and that no need to separate but no approachinf his face and to be careful with the sneezes and coughing far from me.
He also said thag very likely i will be fine if i haven’t had any symptoms yet and if I do become ill to replace the ibuprofen with paracetamol and plenty of fluids and that’s about it
Apparently not much more to do...
Will go to boots today to ask about flu jab!

Thanks everyone for the replies

Go and get yourself the flu jab today. Most chemists can do it. It takes up to two weeks to become immune but you will be exposed to the flu virus this year. This year’s flu is bad, the vaccine is thought to be a good match though.
