Sex before ovulation = girl?

So I've heard that if you have sex before you ovulate you have more chance of conceiving a girl, and on the day of ovulation and the day after you have more chance of having a boy.

I was wondering how true this is. When did you have sex (before, on, or after ovulation) and did you have/are you having a boy or girl ??

The theory is that sperm containing the male chromosomes swim slower than those of a female, so if you have sex just before ovulation the female chromosome sperm will reach the egg quicker, having sex a few days before ovulation therefore, according to the theory, allows the slower male chromosome sperm to 'reach their destination'.

I think we conceived the day before I ovulated according to fertility tracker.

We just dtd every other day the month that we fell (didnt track ovulation) and we had a boy so not sure our case supports the theory.

Yes, it worked that way both times for me - had a boy when I conceived later in my cycle and a girl when we DTD earlier.

@MockingJay27 no I've just found out I'm pregnant (4 weeks tomorrow) so just curious to see if there's any truth to the theory. I'd love a girl and my husband would love a boy so I love winding him up that it's a girl haha

Not only did the person who came up with the theory (Shettles) get the science horribly wrong, they have proven that it makes not one iota of difference when you have sex except for likelihood of conception. Sex of the baby is pure chance.

Worked for us.

One boy having sex lots during the month including ovulation day.
One girl having sex 4 days before ovulation.

My understanding is that female sperm are more resilient yet slower so therefore more likely to survive & reach egg over males if you have sex a few days before ovulation. Male sperm swim faster yet die off quicker than female so having sex on day of ovulation means male sperm are most likely to reach egg first.

We weren't in any way trying to influence sex of baby but the idea above was definitely true for us.

Nope, discussed this last week and wasn’t correct for me or any of group of 5 friends.

Apparently the boy sperm are faster but don't live as long as the girl ones. So in theory if you dtd a couple of days before ovulation only the girl ones should be left.

We had sex three days before ovulation and DC1 is a boy.

Sex once, 3 days before ovulation = boy

Sex every day of cycle = girl

So not very accurate for me

The theory is nonsense and has been discredited.

All the anecdotes above are irrelevant and don’t prove anything- you have a 50/50 chance of either sex so of course there will be plenty of people who believe the theory worked for them. The sex of a baby is random and there isn’t anything (beyond sex selection IVF) you can do to influence it.
