Any help! First baby due end of next month:
I’m confused what size clothes to buy? Tiny baby? Newborn or 0-3 and also pramsuit would it be worth buying a pramsuit in newborn I have one in 0-3 but unsure if this would be too big. Please help!

I woild definitely get a few newborn baby grows and vests - 0-3 drown my dd and ot males it so hard to dress and keep them warm if they don't even sort of fit. If you kept the labels on you could return if not needed esp if yoj got them drom a supermarket

IlonaRN · 16/12/2019 17:40

Start with a few newborn and a few 0 - 3.
If your baby is small, you will need the newborn size, but can buy more. If your baby is big you may need to go straight to 0-3 size, so having too many newborn ones will be a waste.

Okay thank youse, I will buy one newborn pram suit with it being January/February will be cold and I live in the north east so extra cold! When I first bought stuff I was buying 0-3 thinking they would fit straight away. Then I was recently told that it takes a few weeks to fit into them so I would need newborn sizes too. So stressful wanting to buy things but not knowing weight he will be yet😂 I suppose long as I have a few newborn stuff I can buy more if needed once he is here

I seen Asda does a newborn pram suit, its like 11 pound so not too pricey think I will buy that even if it does only last a week or so still be best with it being so cold

My baby is four weeks old but was quite small (6lb 5) and is still in newborn if that helps. She won't be in 0-3 for a while by the looks of it. Unless you have a big baby newborn should do at first.

I've had three babies and never bought a pram suit so I wouldn't get too hung up on that. I didn't drive with the first two either so they went in the pram a lot, but I just used blankets.

Ivysaurus · 16/12/2019 18:35

My DC was 8lb 7 at birth, newborn clothes didn't fit but he was in 0-1 month for about 3 weeks then 0-3. I would buy 0-1 instead of newborn, at least if they're too big they'll fit eventually but being too small they'll never be worn (especially if you wash everything beforehand like I did) if you desperately needed newborn clothes you could order online for next day delivery/collection or have DP or whoever whip to asda

Crrk · 16/12/2019 19:00

Yeah thanks for all your advice ladies! I think I might hold off on pram suit because I don’t think al be going far for first few weeks anyways. I just can’t wait now!

Also I was wondering when would be the best time to start packing hospital bag?😊

Ivysaurus · 17/12/2019 08:46

I packed it at about 38 weeks which I felt was late but I went overdue by 2 weeks anyway. I didn't pack enough as I had to stay in for 3 days/ 2 nights. Needed more sanitary pads/formula mainly and an extra set of clothes due to one set of mine getting dirty. Good luck, it's an excitng time. Feels like this was me yesterday but my little one just turned 1 on Sunday

katmarie · 17/12/2019 08:53

Dd was 8lb 10oz at birth, the little chunk. newborn stuff fitted for the first three weeks or so, shes comfortably into 0-3 months now. It obviously depends how big your baby will be, my sisters baby was 5lb so was in tiny baby and then newborn for a while.

LittleFoote · 17/12/2019 08:55

Don't go mad! The only newborn stuff I bought was going home outfit. Apart from that people bought me loads, so much so, she didn't even get the chance to wear some of it!

katmarie · 17/12/2019 08:56

I had my hospital bag packed at about 36 weeks. Then also went nearly two weeks over.

Keep in mind with pramsuits if they're the thick quilted ones, you shouldn't put baby in the car seat in them, because it stops the straps tightening enough to keep them safe. We used a thick baby grow over the top of a regular one, and then blankets to keep dc cosy in the car/pram.

RhymingRabbit3 · 17/12/2019 08:59

I would buy a pram suit in 0-3, no smaller. If it's too big that doesnt really matter but too small is useless. Now that supermarkets sell baby clothes so reasonably you can buy more stuff at a moments notice so theres no need to stock up on loads of stuff really.
I would get hospital bag packed asap as you never know when you might need it and it doesnt hurt to have it ready.

randomsabreuse · 17/12/2019 09:00

I wouldn't bother with a pram suit in newborn- they're not actually that convenient as blankets stay on newborn and are more flexible if baby is nicely asleep when you get in from a walk as it is nearly impossible to extract baby from pram suit without them waking up! Pramsuits are better for older children who are much wrigglier!

Sweetpeach3 · 17/12/2019 09:03

I'm on number 3 an due next week and still have this panic !!
Iv got quite a few newborn vests an baby grows (about 10 of each as iv always had big baby's) then about 4 nice outfits (the traditional Spanish ones) then iv got quite a lot of 0-3 in baby grows and vests etc because you get more wear out of them and you'll find you go through a lot with the poo explosions etc! But my snow suit is 0-3. Either way their guna be warm doesn't have to fit them perfect the snowsuit.
But Then iv just told people to buy me 3-6m and upwards as they'll always be good to have !
Good luck! Xx

Sweetpeach3 · 17/12/2019 09:05

An get your bag ready!!
I had mine packed from 6/7 months just incase an so it's all their to grab an go without relying on anyone to get stuff I need xx

My DC was 6lb 12 when born, then went down to 6lb 5 before we left hospital due to illness.

He was in newborn for about 6 weeks and we didn’t have nearly enough of it when he was born because everyone convinced me he was going to be huge.

We ended up having to run out to buy clothes.

We just got some cheap bits from primark/Matalan which all done the job fine.

He’s 5 months now and busting out of 3-6 month clothes, the grow really quickly!

Good luck 😊

PlushPlush · 17/12/2019 09:13

Is there a primark or big supermarket near your house or hospital? If so then just get a few 1 month sized for the first couple of days and then send DH out to get more once you know how big they are. That's what we did - DS ended up arriving at 36 weeks and was super little so we needed tiny baby size at first (Primark to the rescue!)

& you definitely don't need a pram suit yet! Your baby will be lying down in the pram for 6 months so it's easier to use blankets.

Congrats!

welshweasel · 17/12/2019 09:17

DS1 was 5lb 9oz and needed early baby, then tiny baby and wasn’t in newborn for a good few weeks.

DS2 was 7lb 13oz and was in newborn for about 3 weeks or so.

You definitely don’t need a pramsuit, I had 2 January babies and never owned one. Just use blankets and a hat, much easier. Can’t use pramsuits in car or sling anyway!

20viona · 17/12/2019 09:22

My baby was in tiny baby for about 6-8 weeks she was 5lb 3oz. She's still in 0-3 at 5 months old now.

aliensprig · 17/12/2019 09:55

Why in earth would anyone buy baby clothes new??! There's literally billions of them being practically given away on ebay and FB marketplace. Save your money, they're not in them for long!!

LittleFoote · 17/12/2019 09:58

Agree with aliensprig. I got 100 items 0-3 months for a fiver off FB marketplace.

Equally, all pressies this Christmas are from preloved sales. All in mint condition at a fraction of the price, and saves plastic from landfill!!

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 17/12/2019 10:02

From the other prospective, I had a huge baby (over 11lbs) and newborn didn’t go within a mile of them. Make sure you pack some 0-3 in your hospital bag too, we only packed one 0-3 outfit and DH had to come home for more!

I packed my bag at 36 weeks.

ASundayWellSpent · 17/12/2019 10:19

We asked people to choose clothes that were sizes 0-3 months and bought a handful of newborn outfits ourselves, mainly just onesies pjs etc. They only lasted three weeks before being outgrown!

WildCherryBlossom · 17/12/2019 10:22

All of mine were over 9lb and didn't fit newborn size at all. Don't buy much (you may well be given quite a few things once the baby is born too). I think 0-3 pram suit will do unless baby is very tiny.

codenameduchess · 17/12/2019 10:28

I got this from Matalan, I got newborn (up to 10lbs) and it's great. DS was a decent size born but it fit lovely and he's still in it now at 4 weeks and 9lbs 5. For £10 it was a good buy!

I like these warm but not too thick ones, he can wear it in the sling or car seat as well as the pram.
