Movements

I need some reassurance please. I know it’s too early to feel a pattern and I am being ridiculous. Lack of movements throughout my first pregnancy was, in hindsight, a sign that something was seriously wrong. DD1 was born with a serious genetic condition and died a year later.

I am 18+3 with twins. I’ve been feeling v light kicks from DT1 for a couple of weeks. No pattern and not every day. DT2 I had some stronger kicks but only a couple every few days and now nothing for a week or so.

I mentioned this at my midwife appt last thurs and they said they don’t expect a pattern until 24 weeks, but I am tying myself up in knots that history is repeating itself.

Can anyone reassure me that I’m worrying too early on about this?

I would say it's too early and babies probally have changed Position so maybe why you havnt felt much recently but in saying that could you maybe give the hospital a call and tell them your situation to see if they will get you in just for a bit of monitoring? Nothing wrong with asking and of course you have a good reason to have some worries. The only other thing I can suggest is maybe booking a private scan if you could afford too and if this would put your mind at ease? X

Hi
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss with your first child Flowers. It's completely understandable that you would be extremely anxious during this pregnancy. It's also probably a bit trickier to track with twins, so I would just say follow your gut and contact your midwife as much as you feel necessary. They've got to be understanding in your circumstances.

I'm currently 19 weeks and I just feel very light movements every so often. I wouldn't say there's any type of pattern or consistency to it. With my first I felt nothing at all until after 28 weeks but that was due to the position of the placenta which then shifted later on.

Hi OP, firstly congratulations on your pregnancy.

I didn't feel solid movements until 23 weeks and a pattern didn't form until around 25. Do not forget twins will be smaller slightly so it'll take a little longer to feel strong and regular movements.

www.kickscount.org.uk/your-babys-movements have a read through this also!

Thanks everyone. The logical part of me says not to go in again yet. The midwives on thurs were very relaxed and told me not to worry or expect daily movements yet. They checked both heartbeats too.
I think I need to try and relax....even if history is repeating itself there is nothing I can do.

Hi @Robs20! I completely get why you are worried, but PPs are right that it is still very early to be feeling movements, twins are move difficult because it is hard to distinguish them from each other.
When is your next consultant appointment & scan?
You obviously will not be able to relax until your little ones are here, but what you are describing here sounds like a normal experience

Hi OP, I am 30 weeks with twins. It never gets easier! I would go mad in the early days when I first started feeling movements, as I found it impossible to distinguish between the two. I did once go in at 27 weeks convinced I couldn’t feel one twin move but he was fine and all was well. At 30 weeks now I finally feel like I can tell the difference between them both moving.

I’d say your midwives are right - at 18 weeks I was only really feeling tickles and up to about 22 weeks all it took was one to change position or roll over and I couldn’t feel them. Regular movements started around 24 weeks.

Hi @OP I'm pregnant with my 4th baby and started to feel some light movements around 17 weeks, no pattern and not every day. I just hit my 20 week and all of a sudden I started to feel again every day and much stronger movements. Baby must have had a growth spurt I guess. Anyways I knew until 24 weeks it's normal not to have a pattern or feel too much of movements even if subsequent pregnancy.

Robs20 · 17/12/2019 18:19

Thanks everyone! I have felt some more light movements today. It is reassuring to hear other people say this is early to feel much. Pretty sure twin 2 has flipped position as I can feel low prods on both sides now.
@Nanmumandmidwife my next scan + consultant appt is 2 Jan.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss 🌺 18 weeks is maybe a little early to have a proper routine but I can totally understand why your feeling anxious. Do you know the position of your placenta? As that can make a difference, I have an anterior placenta and it really muffles the moments, some days he can be really active other days really quiet.
If you are really worried you could always ring the midwife base for advice and see what they suggest
