Period pains at 37+4 weeks

Hi everyone! Smile
Currently 37+4, and for the last few days I've been experiencing period pain on and off. There's no kind of set time that it happens, and it comes and goes whenever it wants. Is this normal, like things are softening up in there? Or is it a sign of very early labour? I don't want to bug my midwife or waste anyone's time, this is my first baby and I'm not sure as to what to look out for when Labour begins, as I've heard it's different for everyone.

Hi OP,

Think this is pretty normal as your body starts gearing up for D-Day, Ive been having it on and off since about 36 weeks and am currently 40 weeks. I was really hoping it was a sign labour was close, unfortunately in my case it definitely hasnt been!

I've had the same for a while. 39+2 today and still no sign of labour. I wouldn't worry. 🙂

Yep, I'm 39 weeks and had them on and off for a week or so. They're not painful (as I of to have extremely bad pain on my periods) so I just find them annoying. I figured that it was my muscles somewhere getting ready for the big day lol asked my midwife and she said the same. I guess it's a good sign!

Same here had it since 32 weeks now 34 week baby has probally moved down a little and is pressing on everything.. Unfortunately doesn't mean labour is imminent but you will know when your in labour as the pains will get stronger and won't subside by paracetamol or a bath/lying down etc..
They do start different for everyone I always got told it would be a pain starting at one side and sweeping over bump to the other side and it's never been like that for me. With my 1st it was a stitch like pain earlier on in the day followed by strong period pains later on that didn't go. With my 2nd it was the period pains and they hit me straight away really strongly.

I had the same from about 38 weeks. At 40 weeks now and just this morning had an examination. I'm 80% effaced and 2cm dilated! So, that's probably why!
