Hi. Ive got very little energy I'm suffering severely with hyperemesis like I did with my first. Because of this condition I literally cannot keep tablets down, can't even keep water down. Will there be a massive affect on the baby?

My mum never took folic acid during her pregnancies because it wasnt a 'thing' then. I turned out okay, as did my siblings!
Though I also suffer with HG & I found it best to take them as I was going to sleep, it was the only way to keep them down.

Not keeping water down is a huge problem. :(

If you really can't keep water down then you should visit a dr ASAP.

Boymummy3 · 15/12/2019 14:30

I would seek help if you cant keep water down just as you may end up dehydrated and have to end up on a drip in hospital. As for folic acid I'm on 3rd pregnancy and I don't even think I took it proper at all with previous two pregnancies and they are just fine.. I would get advice from your midwife about it though as its easy for us to say yeah it's fine not to have propper etc. Also this pregnancy I've ended up being put back on folic acid for 3 weeks a higher dose as got folate anaemia so I would deffinately see your midwife about it x

You need to go to see a doctor now. I couldnt keep water down and didn't have ketones and the GP still signed me off work. You possibly need to get on some IV meds.

Abouttime1978 · 15/12/2019 17:03

Doctor now.

Ask to be given ondanstetron- it's an anti sickness drug given to patients on chemotherapy.

It's the only thing that worked for me, without it I was vomiting 20+ times a day xx

Mothertoone2 · 15/12/2019 19:09

Yeah I've called 111 now as it's got darker. Thanks for your advice, hopefully something will help.doctors prescribed me with ondanstetron on Friday and before that they tried me with certzline or something that sounds similar. Thanks for all your help

Try sucking on ice cubes. Your mouth will absorb water from them even if your stomach revolts.

I suffered with hyperemesis all the way through my pregnancy. I was hospitalised 4 times due to dehydration. My baby girl was born last week completely healthy. I couldn’t keep folic acid down either. I was prescribed 3 anti sickness tablets, ondansetron, cyclizine and prochloperazine. I had to alternate them One every 2 hours just to be able to keep water down.
Please see a doctor ASAP, I collapsed due to dehydration and had to be blue lighted into hospital. If you can’t manage to keep tablets down they can prescribe suppositories.
Hope you feel a little bit better soon x

Hi everyone,

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant and have been throwing up food and water for the last week. I haven’t been able to eat or drink as I am throwing up water too. I have no energy to do anything and have spent my days in bed. I have tried to take sips of cordial as told by my doctor and managed a few grapes. I don’t know what to do to make this feeling better. I am declining each and everyday. Any food that may help?

MrsH497 · 19/12/2019 14:39

@Hsafwan90 if you're unable to keep food and water down you need anti sickness medication and to have urine checked for ketones. High ketone levels and dehydration require hospital treatment
