Does labour happen suddenly?

So I’m pretty much trying to psyche myself up for induction on Thursday when I’ll be 40+13 because I feel like this wee one won’t be getting a move on by themselves but just wondering on the off chance of spontaneous labour...

Does labour happen suddenly or are there signs before? I’m a clueless first time mum

1st started slowly at 3am, irregular contractions, baby here by 1.30pm.

2nd, I didn't even realise I was having contractions, sweep at 12pm, baby here 4.41pm. Contractions were 7 mins apart then suddenly jumped to 2 mins apart. Barely got to the hospital in time.
