Is anyone else experiencing excessive thirst? This is my second pregnancy, with the first being nearly 10 years ago now so I'm struggling to remember what was "normal" last time.
I had my urine checked last week and all was fine but over the last few days I cannot drink enough. In the last hour alone I've drank 2 pints of squash and a can of caffeine free coke and I'm ready for more!!

I find that plain cold water it satisfies better the thirst.

I have been really thirsty all through mine, I heard your blood volume grows by 50% which partly explains the thirst

You do need more fluid in pregnancy due to increased blood volume and kidney filtration, however excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes. They should pick that up on a urine dip, but you could ask for your blood sugars to be tested?

Also, try sucking on boiled sweets/ice/lollies to relieve the thirst!

@Nelbert19 that’s a good tip, thanks.

I figured we’d be needing more fluids these days but it’s the way it suddenly increased that shocked me.
Thanks all.

Could be gestational diabetes. I have been diagnosed and never had a trace of sugar in my urine dip tests. Worth mentioning your thirst to your midwife, see what she thinks. I have been incredibly thirsty, but no other symptoms.

I'm now 35 weeks and have been excessively thirsty through the whole thing. I was quite bad in my first pregnancy but definitely more so this time. I've been tested for GD and all clear so think it's just one of those things. Also water doesn't cut it, I've gone through gallons of squash and milk and get panicky if I don't have my water bottle with me! Blush
