Early scan

Had a vaginal scan today according to my period date I am suppose to be 8 weeks pregnant however according to the ultrasound today I am only 6 weeks pregnant. Are early pregnancy ultrasounds accurate ?

According to my period I was 11 weeks, I just knew I wasn't that far along but went for an early scan anyway which measured at 6 weeks and those dates were accurate in my further on scans. I was very irregular and I knew the roundabout dates we could've conceived didn't add up to me being 11 weeks at that stage.

They're not super accurate. I went at 7 weeks for an early scan and was told I measure 5+ weeks, although could see baby and yolk sac and also heartbeat.
It turned out at my dating scan I was off three days only.

So for me early scan wasn't so accurate.

Be mindful baby is so tiny and the position is in it might be difficult to measure accurately. Also keep in mind you could have ovulated a big later and also implanted a bit later, so you could be off even a week.

I had an early scan at apparently 6 weeks, was put over a week ahead on my 12 week scan and growth has been consistent with those dates so far - I have growth scans :)

So yup the only odd one out for me was the early scan.

I had an early scan with DD and was meant to be 7 weeks according to my last period. The scan showed i was barely 5 weeks!

My last period meant she should of been due 29th December but she was actually due the 9th January and didnt arrive till the 11th. They said i must of ovulated later in my cycle

With DD I had a scan at 7 weeks where I was measuring at only five weeks, only yolk sack could be seen. I had another scan a week later where fetal pole and heartbeat were seen but I was still measuring behind. I had scans every two weeks where the baby was catching up in size and by twelve week scan I was only one day out. As pp has said the baby is so tiny at the stage that it is really difficult to measure completely accurately
