Hi, im sorry for posting this question here but dont know where else to post it 🤔 so i have thee most beautiful baby boy who is 7 weeks old. I am so in love but also as a first time mum im querying a lot of things! So my question is about how to record feeds. He is struggling to put on weight and he doesnt take the amount that is expected for his weight. I have to record his feeds which i have been doing but today realised i may be doing it all wrong 🤦‍♀️ so i add 120ml to a bottle then add formula which brings it up to 140ml. Do i count the bottle as 120ml then or 140ml ? So if he drinks the full bottle how much has he had ? I know this is probably a real stupid question, im still blaiming baby brain 🤣 i would appreciate any advice !

Read the volume once it's all made up, so if the total volume is 160ml, and he drains it then that's what he's drunk 😊

I had the same question, and ended up deciding it was the volume of water, since that correlates to ounces which is what people always used to measure in. But it's best not to be too precise about these things I find. After all, nobody knows whether a breastfed baby has had 120 or 140ml.

Who has asked you to record feeds, health visitor? Maybe you can call and check in the morning?

Thanks for the replys, i was recording the total bottle but now thinking it should be the amount of water but that worries me as it means he is taking even less than i thought 😖 he is been seen by a consultant in maternity hospital as he has hypertonia and they are doing heaps of tests to see why. He is very long baby and his length and head are growing perfectly but his weight isnt which is why they asked me to record. I rang today to ask but no one called me back, i will ring tomorrow again. Thanks again 😊

I suppose if you were using ready made, you'd record the volume of actual made up formula wouldn't you, so that way does make a bit more sense. It would also be easier to work out if he doesn't finish the bottle.

It sounds good everything is being monitored, try not to worry, if they were really concerned about him they would have you in hospital so hopefully he is having enough. I can't remember how much DS2 was having at that age but 120/140ml doesn't sound like too little to me :)

The total volume in the bottle, so in your example it would be 140ml.

So just an update. HV weighed him today and he is now 11lb 10oz and 62cm 😍 she seems happy with his weight. She said its the total volume to go by and used same example of using a premade formula as BertieBots 😁 im very happy after her visit! Thanks for advice !!! X
