I don't mean when you got a BFP, obviously. I mean what prompted you to do a test/see your GP?

had been try for several months with a fortune spent on negative tests.
Had settled into a 5wk cycle since stop using the pill, but had signs I was fertile a week earlier than expected.

There were various unusually things (especially a hot flush about a week after conceiving), but did't get too excited as I had been disappointed before. 4 days before finding out saw my Dr re trouble conceiving (& a neg test), and 1 day before bought thin clothes that I have only managed to wear a couple of times - called sods law but with happy ending

bizzi · 28/09/2004 18:36

a) late period -not planned (at all)
b) decided to give up trying (after two weeks) did test before starting pill again
c) chronic back ache -not planned (period not due for 2 days but did test anyway)

One night I said to dp 'i've got a gamble for you with very long odds - there's no way i can get pregnant today'. he was up for it. week later we took another chance but this time I took the morning after pill. 3 weeks later AF still hadn't come -no other symptoms at all - did a test in Sainsbury's loo and was bowled over by the BFP. Had to interview all day long but between each candidate all I could see was the two lines...

You'll think I'm mad but a friend of mine is into crystals, pendulums, that sort of thing, and she had got a new pendulum that she was trying out. She was asking all kinds of questions to try and get to know her responses to it (yes, I know) and at one point asked whether I was pregnant, expecting a negative, as she knew that I had no plans to have children at all ... the pendulum went absolutely haywire. She was adamant I was pregnant, I was equally adamant I was not, so she went out and bought be a pregnancy test. I didn't use it that day but the following day, after copious amounts of throwing up and with very sore boobs I took the test. Of course, I knew there was no way I was pregnant ...

Dd is now nearly three and a half.

I had lots of odd dreams that involved lots of maternal vibes and even when awake, I recall an argument with DP where I turned round and shouted "well, if you think you are capable of looking after our baby then you can think again!!" I think both our faces were a picture with that one! It certainly wasn't on the cards for us at the time.

womba1 · 28/09/2004 19:55

My dh told me that i was pregnant...as soon as we'd 'done the deed'...
He said he felt that that was the time and in the lead up to my AF being due, he told me everyday that i was pregnant. When i was a week late, i did a test..and oh boy did he gloat!
He walked around for weeks calling himself SuperSperm!!

beansmum · 28/09/2004 20:21

i had sore boobs and just felt generally weird. was in denial for ages though, knew i couldn't be pg and ds was definitely not planned!

eidsvold · 28/09/2004 21:41

no1 - sore boobs and then thought period might be late ( never very regular) told dh - he jsut laughed - we had not been married very long. Went and did a test the next day whilst he was at football - sure enough was pregnant.

no2 - just knew - so figured get a test and check and sure enough - no2 due Nov.

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 21:51

I know exactly when I conceived btw, something popped, literally and I went to the loo and thought, shit I just got pregnant. Took the morning after a pill, thank God it didn't work though, 9 months later I had a fab little girl.

tammybear · 28/09/2004 21:55

i was 5 days late on my period before i tested and knew from the 2nd day i was late that i was pregnant. i did the test in my work's toilets, and as i was heading there, two of my work colleagues somehow knew i was going in there to do a pregnancy test (??) but i was carrying a superdrug bag and probably had a worried look on my face so no wonder lol

coppertop · 28/09/2004 21:56

The first time around I was temping in an office and had to rush off to the loo every 5 minutes no matter how little I drank. Then one morning the office manager asked me to make some coffee (as I'd been doing nearly every morning) and the smell of it made me feel very sick. Of course the morning sickness followed soon after...

The second time around I only realised when my period was late and I felt a bit sick.

fisil · 28/09/2004 21:58

crying and being irritable. Oh, and crashing the car.

My DH guessed as my hormones settled down and I was really sweet to him!! I sound like a real cow!!

nightowl · 29/09/2004 03:23

first time we had been trying for a baby and just tested as i was late.

second time my periods had been all messed up since i had laser treatment after a dodgy smear. the hospital told me to go back if things didnt settle down. i suddenly thought one day that i hadnt had a period for ages and that i should phone the hospital to go back. dont ask me why but for some reason i thought i would just rule out pregnancy before i went. two tests later and i knew why i was late!

beansprout · 29/09/2004 06:18

Had been at a friend's house to see her new baby and her preg. friend was there. We had just started trying and I when I left I couldn't stop thinking about it. When I got home I just did the test to prove I was neg. so I could stop obsessing about it as I knew I couldn't be preg yet.

Am due next week....!

Flossam · 29/09/2004 12:01

Had D and V, felt awful. Period due that day, not a thought I was pregnant. Next day, felt a bit better, went out to get some bits, saw a pack of two cheap pregnancy tests, thought they would be useful to own at some point, shoved them in my basket. Got home, still no period. Just thought I would do one, not really thinking anything of it... DP had no idea what was going on, had the shock of his life when I called him to the bathroom! I won't tell you what his first words on the news was!

LittleB · 29/09/2004 12:45

We were trying and I was a day late, I'd been having 26 day cycles so I was going to wait until day 30 at least, but couldn't wait and tested positive on day 27, with two different kits! I had felt a bit odd, car sick and strange pains too.

Late period and boobs were very tender. Had never done a test before and wasn't trying to get pregnant. Friend pushed me to buy a test and convinced me it was the worrying about maybe being pg that was keeping period away. So as you can imagine we were both gob smacked when it was positive

teabelly · 29/09/2004 16:08

Was on the pill, but had bad case of cystitus (sp??) and prescribed antibiotics. Was 5 days late but assumed this was caused by antibiotics messing up the system. At a work lunch suddenly felt sick drinking the wine and the thought 'your pregnant' popped into my head...don't know where from, but couldn't shake it. Went to get a test (on pretense of going to bank) and tested in work loos...biggest shock of my life
