When did you set up baby furniture

As the title says, I'm wondering how long before babys due date you set up the cot and got everything ready? I'm wanting to do it when I'm 28-30 weeks but is that too early?

Built next to me when I got home from hospital. Cot when she was about seven months old. Room still a work in progress....

Pram I wish I had got a hang of. Sorting it for the first time in the supermarket car park was not my best idea.

Built the snuz at about 36 weeks and built the cot the morning I was waiting to be induced at 37 weeks as I was so bored. I was putting up blinds, shelves and curtain poles up a fortnight before though (couldnt wait for the faffing of my husband and I'm better at it than him!)

KHall84 · 12/12/2019 13:05

I put cot up and changer and done all nursery at about 32 weeks and done crib about 36 weeks and done next to me and bedding in cot ect when I was 39 weeks.

I did get my pram delivered and set up from about 34 weeks which i practised putting up and down ect i also wanted everything sorted in case baby was early xx

We built everything and had the room finished not long after my 20 week scan, which seems really early compared to pp.

Just put it up when you feel ready for it to be up.

I found it handy to have it up early so could start packing all clothes etc away ready for the baby’s arrival.

Then when we come home from hospital didn’t need to do a thing apart from cuddle Smile

Celebelly · 12/12/2019 13:07

The Next to Me was about about 36/37 weeks and car seat base fitted around then too. Tbh it was more of a case of when we (DP Grin) got round to it rather than a conscious decision. Pram was put together when it arrived so we could store the massive box elsewhere!

Honeybee85 · 12/12/2019 13:08

I think we did around 30 weeks pregnant and by 33 weeks I had washed all the clothes, made the cot etc.

Parker231 · 12/12/2019 13:11

Sorted out the cribs the day I came home from hospital (DT’s were kept in) and put furniture in their rooms when they were six months and moved out of our room.

SuziGeo · 12/12/2019 13:18

Bought the cot and furniture for baby's room at 30 weeks and built it immediately. Meant I could start tidying the room and finding places to put everything. Picked up the pram a week or so later and also built it immediately too. I'm not superstitious and like to be organised.

In the afternoon of 36+6 not realising we'd have the baby in our arms by the next morning. It wasn't delivered until a few days before that as we assumed that we had plenty of time. If you do put things up that early then put dust sheets or similar over it whilst it's not in use. We didn't actually affix the next to me until we'd come back from the hospital though.

MsChatterbox · 12/12/2019 13:28

I got stuff ready really early. Was excited. This time round I'll probs make sure it's done about 30 weeks just to make sure I'm not too big when doing it. Honestly there's no harm doing it early.

paperplant · 12/12/2019 14:46

We built the crib after coming home from hospital - can't recommend, it was an afternoon of building and checking on the baby when I could've done with sleep. If you have the space and don't mind it standing around for 10 weeks, just do it now while the bump's not in the way!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/12/2019 14:50

Cot went up about 8 weeks before - mainly to air new mattress and give it time to flatten. Dd didn't go in it til 6m ish but I wanted it done before I also had a baby to contend with.

We put up the chest of drawers and put together the Moses basket about 4 weeks before. That's all we had.

babymummytobe · 12/12/2019 15:00

I'm around 6 weeks out and have set up the changing table as well as a chest of drawers for the baby which I've filled with clothes and all else needed.

I don't feel ready yet and wish I had started earlier to be honest. Stupid superstition. I'm so tired now and heavy and can't sleep and worrying about doing so many things still. It's stressful. Should have done it all at 20 weeks.

Still have no pram or car seat. If baby is early, we won't be ready. But I'm sure we will survive!

ohdearymemumof3 · 12/12/2019 18:27

Im 38+5, we put the cot and swing chair together last week, as well as packing my hospital bag x

Buyitinbamboo · 12/12/2019 18:47

DD - everything ready by 28 weeks. DS - built the crib whilst I was in labour

notnowmaybelater · 12/12/2019 18:50

Baby number 1 - at 28 weeks (she was born at 42 weeks and didn't go into her own room til 6 months...)

Babies 2 and 3 when they were ready to use it. DC2's room was just full of boxes when we brought him home from hospital as we'd just moved, and we didn't unpack them til he was about 3 months old.

abbs1 · 12/12/2019 18:54

We are having the cot in our bedroom as we live with parents currently so dont have a nursery or bedroom for baby atm but hoping to move out soon. I just feel like nesting and want to get everything ready and set up so I dont have to worry or when I'm too big to move 😂.

Both of mine used a Moses basket for the first 4 months. Bought a cot around 3 months and built when they were ready to move into it.

No space for boxes to be lingering around and both shared a room with me until 1 year and 2.5 years respectively so didn't really need any other furniture.

HarrietM87 · 12/12/2019 18:56

Did it all once I went on mat leave at 38 weeks - too busy at work before that! Baby overdue anyway.
