Hi everyone, This week I had my 20 week scan (at 21 + 5). In the last minute the sonographer announced that the head circumference was small and went to get a second opinion. It is

Hiya, I’m having multiple growth scans at the moment. I’m now coming up to 35 weeks but I’ve been having growth scans since about 28 weeks, they thought it may have been placental insufficiency but I hen I’ve been back to review it the scan and Doppler hasn’t shown anything. It’s been quite frustrating.

My baby’s was also measuring 5th percentile and when they noted a possible placental problem I was told baby needed to get out, via c section in 7-10 days. I got myself mentally prepared. Weren’t for a fetal medicine scan and they were happy enough to monitor with weekly scans and Doppler a until baby wants to be born, that was all at 33 weeks.

I’ve been for my next scan yesterday and they’ve measured her at 3rd percentile now, and to be told that 97% of baby’s at this gestation are bigger than her is really scary. So we’re aiming now for 37weeks, they’re giving me a c section date next Tuesday.. Im just hoping I don’t have to be in hospital over Christmas!

My baby’s head has got smaller and I had the TORCH blood test to see if I had an infection aswell such as CMV and toxoplasmosis.

My blood results came back clear and they’ve said that baby is just small. But give I’m 5ft and DP is 5ft 4 and we’re both slim they’ve said they wouldn’t expect us to make a huge baby anyway.

Try not to panic about it, when I was being told everything in the first place I found myself subconsciously panicking and it was stopping me eating and I felt dreadful.

It’s horrible all the not knowing but there are things that can be done for you and baby to make sure they get him/her here as safely as possible.

I wish you the best of luck! Flowers

I had this too. I had chickenpox at 4 weeks pregnant and it can cause (among lots of issues) microcephaly, an unusually small head and brain.
Baby’s body was measuring around the 47th percentile and head circumference was around the 4th percentile.
I had the growth scan 4 weeks later and everything looks ok. She just has a small head! Smile

My dd measured small overall and her head was proportionally smaller - she's now at university

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories- it’s such a nerve wracking time waiting for results and next scan.
@BarleyG glad to hear that everything has sorted itself out and that your baby is now looking healthy, keep me posted
@SexlessBoulderBelly good luck with the c section - I’m sure your baby will be absolutely perfect

@kimbanetic how did it turn out for you in the end?
I'm am going through a similar situation and would love to hear what they said to you.

Kimbanetic · 05/01/2020 21:33

@Keshia - I have my next scan this week so fingers crossed. The results of the TORCH test were negative so no trace of CMV which is a relief. I did speak to a few other midwives who said not to worry as there was nothing hugely out of the ordinary, so fingers crossed we'll both be ok. I'll let you know how scan goes.Did you have something similar at your 20 week scan?

@Kimbanetic Hey, I'm glad your TORCH results came back okay and I really do hope your scan goes well. Yes, please let me know how it goes.

They told me my babies head is small and her brain has not fully formed. Her brain is small and her scan looks very worrying. I had a Fetal MRI Done and will receive the results on Thursday such as my TORCH results.

@KayleysMum I'm sorry to hear about your scan. It sounds like they're doing thorough checks for you though and you're in good hands. Keeping my fingers crossed for your results on Thursday. It's so horrible having to wait.

Can I join the thread for support?
20 week scan yesterday and H.C. was bottom of the chart and considerably out of proportion to other measurememts which were all 50th percentile

Waiting to talk to midwife to find out what it means and all I’ve done is google and worried myself silly

NemophilistRebel · 07/01/2020 20:35

I also have 2 year old and have since read up on CMV and worrying about that but they didn’t take any blood to check for it after he scan ? !

Kimbanetic · 11/01/2020 14:38

I had my follow up scan, and they are happy with the baby's growth. They actually said that they shouldn't have worried me so much in the first place. I have a small baby, but they are happy that the head is now in proportion with the rest of the body.
@NemophilistRebel - your 20 week scan seemed similar to mine, and 4 weeks later, my baby's proportion had corrected itself. Apparently this is not uncommon. I do hope your follow scan is ok.

Hi. I am in a similar situation, I had scans at 20, 23, 24 and 27 weeks with Fetal medicine unit. The baby’s head is consistently on 5th centile and growing along the same line at every scan. The body is between 30th and 50th centile with no other problems detected. Any comments??

Sriraja · 01/02/2021 16:43

Hi I had my 20 weeks scan today they said to me baby head is small but rest of scan is normal.. The consultant who scanned said brain anatomy is fine but I would need repeat scan at 22 weeks, 24 weeks and further follow up.. Just I am as scared as any other in group fingers crossed wishing for a normal healthy happy baby. Mostly on positive note but bit anxious. Hope this group will be helpful for support.
Would like to know if anyone had delivered and how the baby is?. Any Comments welcome.
I had my Torch screen today awaiting blood results

Hello,

I hope all of your pregnancy have gone OK and your babies are doing well.
Yesterday at 20 +6 weeks I had my scan, as far as they could see everything else is OK with the baby but her hc is only on the 4th centile line. Fc 15th ishline and AC about 40th. I've got to go back in two weeks for another scan, I'm trying not to worry bit it's not easy!
