Hi everyone!

I have recently found out I am pregnant. Just gone 6 weeks!

I'm really excited but also a little scared as I had a miscarriage back in April. I only found out on my 12 week scan as they were unable to find the heart beat.

I decided to put my plans on hold and then 2 months ago came off the pill again. I was surprised I became pregnant again so quickly and have booked a private scan for 8 weeks.

Has anyone had one? I don't know what to expect! Will I be able to actually see anything or hear the heartbeat?

Thanks in advance xx

At 8 weeks you should see a tiny developing baby, won't look like a proper baby but still. They should see by then the heart flickering and may listen to it.

They'll probably try first to do it on your tummy, but you might be asked to do a transvaginal as baby is do small and it's better seen that way.

Hi @kat025

I had a scan at 8 weeks just to make sure everything was alright as this is my first pregnancy and I didn't really know what to expect.

It was great for reassurance and we were able to see the heartbeat, however just visually not audible.

By my dates at my scan I was 8 weeks - the baby was measured at 7 weeks 3 days but my midwife said it's normal to be different at this stage.

I'm now almost 10 weeks and have my 3 month scan beginning of the new year!

Overall I found the experience good for checking and putting my mind at ease!

Hope this helps!

I had one at 8 weeks too and it was a little splodge of a bean rather than a baby! But lovely to see the flicker of the heartbeat and know that once that heart is beating the pregnancy is much safer. I would do it again for my next one if I needed the reassurance!

Thank you so much for your replies!

The scan is booked in for Christmas Eve so I'm really excited and I'm thinking about telling my parents and his parents then as well!

Xxxxx
