I have really come to understand why these threads are so popular! Have trawled through so many name sites and books that I can not say if a name is nice or not. I realise that that names are a really personal choice but please tell me if my child will get teased at school if it given one of these names.....

Girl:
Brenna
Joni
Joley

Boy:
Sorley (Like it but think he would hate us for this one!)
Quinn
Euan

Our surname sounds like Kitten. Some of these are anglisized (sorry brain gone - sp?) versions of Manx names.

Do I need to do more trawling!?

The only one I like, tbh, is Quinn.

scorpio1 · 23/08/2007 14:55

Joni

Quinn

3sEnough · 23/08/2007 14:57

Agree - Quinn for a boy is great - Sorley is positively cruel!! (Sorely missed, are you Sore Sorely etc, etc) Like the girl's names - good luck!

Fimbo · 23/08/2007 14:57

Euan is one of those names I really really disliked when my cousin called her ds that, but over the years I have grown to really like it. Love this spelling too - Ewan.

Don't like the rest either boy or girl I am afraid.

saltire · 23/08/2007 14:59

I have a EWan, pick that..

Don't like Sorley or Quinn sorry. However it's your child and you and your DH/DP must pick what you like, not what we all like

All the girls name you have chosen are ok, although the Joley one I would be inclined to spell it Joely

missbumpy · 23/08/2007 15:02

I think Sorley and Quinn will get mercilessly picked on at school. All the other names are nice but all the girls names sound quite American to me. Not that there's anything wrong with American...

I prefer Joni (Mitchell) and Joley to Brenna.

scorpio1 · 23/08/2007 15:03

if you want a J girls name, what about Jessamy? (my dp says no )

doggiesayswoof · 23/08/2007 15:13

Euan is nice.
Not so keen on Sorley or Quinn... Quinn's a surname, surely?

Like the girls' names.
Pruners is right, wait and see what he/she looks like

oliveoil · 23/08/2007 15:15

Jessamy? Surely that is two names squashed together?

from the list, Brenna or Euan

scorpio1 · 23/08/2007 15:16

No, a different version of Jessamine.

oliveoil · 23/08/2007 15:17

have not heard of that either, sorry

I like old biddy names personally

scorpio1 · 23/08/2007 15:18

i like biddy names too its in a modern (subsitute made up also) baby names book i have.

mixedmama · 23/08/2007 15:19

i actually quite like Quin FWIW. Not sure about the girls names but Joley is quite sweet. but just go with your gut, you will know what is right at the time.

Fimbo · 23/08/2007 15:20

There is a cottage in my village called Jessamy which I had assumed were a form of Jessica and Amy shoved together.

DoubleBluff · 23/08/2007 15:20

I like Euan.
Not keen on any of the girls names.
Joely maybe.

mixedmama · 23/08/2007 15:20

LOL at Biddy names

loler · 23/08/2007 15:21

Isn't Jessamine from the bible?

I like old biddy names but can't get any of them past DH!

I'm a bit worried about leaving it until after. Never think a baby looks like any name - took me ages to get used to using a name!

Quinn is too like Quim

hellish · 23/08/2007 15:22

Like Joni and Joely
Also Quinn and Ewan are nice

Spidermama · 23/08/2007 15:24

I think Sorely is the only must-rethink on your lists. I like all the others.

loler · 23/08/2007 15:24

CD - Thanks that rules out Quinn - Hard nickname to carry off!

OP posts:
hellish · 23/08/2007 15:25

Don't like Sorely but how about Soren?

emj23 · 23/08/2007 16:18

I think Joley is a nice name, but prefer it spelled Jolie ('pretty' in French).

Euan is the best one out of the boys names, I agree with the other posters that the names Sorley and Quinn are asking for other children to be mean to your child, and some are bad enough without ammunition.

mixedmama · 23/08/2007 16:30

I dont understand why a Quinn would be picked on am i missing something.
