Worried about BP after booking appointment

I am 8 weeks pregnant today with my first baby (eek). I've been feeling pretty rough the past fortnight and had my first booking appointment yesterday where I had my blood pressure, BMI etc taken. All was fine, except my BP came out as 146/71! The nurse didn't comment and said that was okay, however that is super high is it not? I did text my midwife afterward and she said it was on the high side and I should see my GP if I was worried. I have never had any problems with my blood pressure before. I'm wondering if I was feeling nervous and ill and maybe that had an impact? Obviously I have Googled and worried myself now!

What's your blood pressure normally like? That is a little high, but not stupidly so.

My blood pressure was high at my booking appointment, but I put that down to having to recount a traumatic pregnancy experience to the midwife and answer a load of awkward questions. Stress definitely has an impact on BP.

Mine always goes up when I am in a doctors office. Definitely speak to your GP but it is worth checking it again with an at home metro.

The top number is high - I was advised anything over 140/90 needed attention - did they do it manually or with a machine? I always have really high readings when they use a machine but I would see your GP to be on the safe side.

They did it with a machine. I spoke to my midwife on the phone today and she did say to try not to worry about it, she has managed to fit me in for an appointment again tomorrow so will re-test it. My BP is normally absolutely fine, more in the 120s, so it was alarming when she said that was OK, but maybe she was accounting for White Coat Syndrome, I have had really bad nausea and was terribly worried about feeling like I was going to flake out in there, so I'm sure it was up a bit. Taking it at home is a good idea, I may give that a go.

Over 200/100 is high. I wouldn't worry about yours considering the situation you were in and the fact it was a machine. I do bps day in day out!
