6 week scan - only can see gestational sac

Hello! I've been trying for 2.5 years to get pregnant with number 2 (short story - only 3 periods in 2.5 years). I had my last period in Sept but ovulated on the 6th Oct (so LMP dates would make me 12 weeks (I didn't feel pregnant until after I ovulated so I know I'm not that far along), ovulation date would make me almost 7 weeks. I've felt far less sick than I did with DS but just assumed that was because it was just a different pregnancy. I had a abdominal scan today and it just showed an empty gestational sac which was measuring about 5 weeks. I've got to go back on the 22nd Dec for another scan. I'd love to hear about anyone else's experiences of this! Did anyone else work out their due date based on ovulation (and was it almost 2 weeks less?!). If I'm going to miscarry will it just start itself? I'm worrying Christmas is going to spent miscarrying or in hospital. Thank you!

I had a scan at 5+3 for pain and there was only a sac.
I returned at 6+4 and a yolk sac had appeared, but no foetal pole - sonographer measured at 6+1
Finally went back at 7+0 (according to LMP) and there was a nice strong heartbeat! Sonographer is now measuring at 6+3

An empty sac at 5 weeks (even at 6 weeks) is normal. Best of luck with the second scan, try not to drive yourself up the wall with worry (much easier said than done I know!)

Just to add - I’ve got very regular periods and working out dates is still more art than science!

i was in the same situationn. at 6 weeks i went to EPU cos brown discharge. they scanned me and dated me at 5w1d. from my dates i should have been 6 w. they sac and empty sac and asked me to come back 10 days later, then we saw the heartbeat and everytihing was on date

now im 16 weeks pregnant and last saturday i was dated 2 days ahead :)

so keep positive cos it seems very normal

I started bleeding on Friday, my last period was September so thought I was about 10 weeks. On my scan they found the sac and a little flicker so said it was the heartbeat. They measured me at 5+4 days.
I hope everything works out for you op. I'm terrified that I'm going to miscarry over Christmas too x
