Is it normal to not have any braxton hicks?

I'm 32 + 4 weeks and I still haven't felt anything like what I think a Braxton Hicks contraction should feel like. Is this normal? From what I've read on here and in books it sounds like everyone has them. Am I missing something?

I never had any, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I didn't have any w/ ds1 and very few w/ ds2.

Othersideofthechannel · 23/08/2007 12:17

Didn't have them or at least didn't feel them for either pregnancy.

missbumpy · 23/08/2007 12:18

I wonder why all the books make it seem like absolutely everyone has them. Why don't they say that some women have them and some women don't? I was beginning to think I was a bit of a freak!

I didn't feel anything with either of my dd's. Try not to worry, and good luck!

LackingNicknameInspiration · 23/08/2007 12:45

Glad you've asked this - I'm 34 + 5 and not a thing.
Agree with what you say about the books - I was beginning to think there was something amiss!

Mumpbump · 23/08/2007 12:54

I never had any when I was pg with ds and have only had a couple of mild ones this time around - now 34 + 3.

Pennypops · 23/08/2007 12:59

I'm 38 + 1 and have felt nothing so far. Not frustrated or anything, no sireeee.....

Maddison · 23/08/2007 13:02

I had them with DS1, but none at all with DS2. Am now 38+6 with DS3 and haven't had anything yet...

sarahloumadam · 23/08/2007 13:15

I was worried for opposite reason - been having lots and my book said it was an sign of imminent labour - eek! However my MW said some women never get them, some get lots so hope you are not worried anymore . Blooming books - I'm going to chuck mine away!

GreedyGecko · 23/08/2007 13:16

I didn't have any with either of mine.

Mumpbump · 23/08/2007 13:53

What I want to know is if you never get them, does that mean that childbirth is more or less painful??

MuffinMclay · 23/08/2007 13:58

Pretty sure I never had them with ds.

HandbagAddiction · 23/08/2007 14:11

I don't think I had any with either dd or dd2. However, I think the thing to think about is that you might actually be having them, but not really be able to feel them.

So in both my pregnancies (where I would have said I had no BHs) I have on occasion been being examined by a midwife who has asked....'did you feel that?' as she whilst has felt my stomach harden..like it would do for a BH contraction whilst doing the examination.

So it could be that you may be having BHs but just don't know it?!

missbumpy · 23/08/2007 15:00

Hmm, I'm trying to work out if I could have had one and not realised. Don't think so. I haven't felt anything at all other than the baby kicking away like a maniac.

Mumpbump, I was wondering the same thing about whether it has any implications for how long/difficult labour is

I didn't have any with DS1 or DS2, but boy is this pregnancy making up for it!!

GreedyGecko · 24/08/2007 00:10

I don't know if it does make any difference to the length/difficulty of labours, but mine were both quick & easy!

PurpleLostPrincess · 24/08/2007 00:13

I didn't have them with either DS or DD1 but I've had them loads with this pg - I reckon every pg is different.

ChasingSquirrels · 24/08/2007 00:17

I didn't think I had any in my first pg, though in retrospect I had something for about the last 10 days.
pg2 the started around 20wks and just didn't stop.
None was definately preferable!

wishingmummy · 24/08/2007 00:31

when i was in the later stages of preganancy, my baby stoped moving, and i was terribly worried,a nd phoned the midwife , who sent me into hospital, to be monitored. whilst on the monitor thingy, the midwife came in to check, and fell around laughing.. veryhting was fine, aparantly, i was having braxton hicks contractions, and couldn't feel a damn thing !!!
so don't worry...
didn't have any with number 2 babe either!
