Contractions at 23 weeks

I've been having contracts on and off for the last few days and have been in hospital 3 times, they have decided today that it's a UTI causing irritable uterus but is so unbelievably painful an the pain just keeps getting worse.

The doctor said it will take a few days for the antibiotics to kick in but how do I know if it's stops being IU and starts being real labour?

@busylifebusywife hope you are feeling better, are your pains like period cramps? Do you have any other symptoms? When you went to see the doctor did they rule out premature labour or anything else? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I had my son who is now 20 months at 26 weeks. Don't worry to much but any symptoms that don't feel normal, go into your emu for a check up.

Thanks for the reply they have checked my cervix and said it's still high and closed. They have also done the swabs for preterm labour and they are negative. But I had the same swabs with my daughter that came back negative and she was born 4 days later at 36 weeks 🙈 the pains are very much like early labour but I was told that's what it feels like but to watch for labour so it's so hard to tell the difference.

Hope your son is doing well! Did you have any labour signs? Hope you don't mind me asking.

@busylifebusywife my son is doing very well now thank you, it was a journey to get here but I am so grateful to have him with us, happy, healthy & cheeky as ever Smile

With my son I started loosing my mucus plug a week before I went into pre term labour, I remember my cervix was checked when I went into hospital and they said it was closed but I gave birth to him a few days later, they suspected I had an infection which led to pre term labour, was a shock and very unexpected.

I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and have had the cervical cerclage which is a stitch placed to keep my cervix closed to try and prevent another premature labour. I am doing well so far thankfully.

I would just keep a close eye on any symptoms changing or increasing, have they given you any medication for the UTI? I'm sure they know what they are talking about but my advice is to always go with gut instincts. Wishing you well Thanks

Thank you, yes they have given me antibiotics just hoping they kick in soon as I'm in so much pain. I've lost no mucus plug so hopefully things will settle down x
