Screening for Downs and Edwards syndrome

Hi, I have just had my test results back for screening tests. I had a 1:100000 of Edwards syndrome but 1:23500 for Downs syndrome. Does anyone know why it might be over 4 times more likely for Downs? Do you think its worth booking a NIPT test?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

It means for every 23,500 people with that result 1 person will have a child with downs. So no I don't think it is worth getting the nipt.

Edwards is rarer than Downs so the risk will naturally be lower. I don’t think a risk of 1 in 23,500 is anything to worry about.

They are totally different chromosome abnormalities and one is rather than the other.

By all means get the NIPTY but I guarantee it will just say you are low risk for both.

*rarer not rather

Thanks all, that makes sense.
