15 weeks and bleeding for the 3rd time šŸ˜”

Hi all,

I’m just trying to get some reassurance I guess and see whether anyone has experienced the same.

I had two bleeds before the 12 week mark, one quite heavy where I ended up in A&E and 2nd which was spotting. I had scans at EPU on both occasions and everything looked good but they didn’t know where the bleeds had come from. I had a scan 10 days ago and baby was happy, wriggling and had a strong heartbeat.

I woke up at 6am this morning as I felt ā€˜wet’ which turned out to be blood. It wasn’t bright red but definitely more than the 2nd bleed. It’s now stopped and I’ve cancelled all plans for the next 48 hours to bed rest as this is what was suggested to me before. I should be able to get scanned in the week, just waiting for confirmation from the midwife office.

Did anyone ever find out what was causing the bleeds when they had them? This is getting me so down every time it happens as in that moment I’m convinced I’m losing the baby.

I can't really reassure you because you'll worry no matter what, but I bled on and off throughout my second pregnancy and up to about 32 weeks with the last one. In my first pregnancy I had larger bleeds at 8 and 13 weeks. Nobody could ever figure a reason but I do have a cervical ectropian and they thought it might have been that. I also bled a lot in labour and nobody knew why that happened either but it happened every time.

I had three healthy babies in the end, so don't lose hope because it can all be fine in the end.

Thank you...honestly it does reassure me that there are other reasons other than the worse case scenario.

My SIL gave birth last week to a beautiful healthy baby boy after a pregnancy where she bleed on and off throughout. They ended up giving her weekly scan appointments which was reassuring for her. But they never did find out what was causing the bleeds??

minipie · 08/12/2019 13:28

I had several small bleeds both pregnancies and it was almost certainly due to a cervical erosion/ectropian.

Have you ever bled after sex or (tmi!) after a big poo in the past? If so quite likely you have an erosion/ectropian and they become more prominent and likely to bleed in pregnancy.

It all stopped by about 17 weeks iirc.

It's so, so scary - I had a proper period-type bleed before 12 weeks and truly thought it was game over (I remember sobbing as quietly as I could in the waiting room of the EPAU, I genuinely had no hope that the pregnancy would continue). But I'm now 37+4 and Mini RedPandaFluff seems to be growing well.

I did a lot of (obsessive) research and bleeding seems to be just one of those weird things that happens sometimes. I found this hugely reassuring - the photo is just what I got from entering some random details, but you can input your own here:

As you can see, you've got this far, the odds are strongly in your favour Thanks

@Misskg1982 if they gave me weekly scans that would be amazing as I would be so much more relaxed I think. Congrats on your nephew as well! What a lovely Christmas present :)

@minipie haha I think with pregnancy nothing is TMI anymore. I’ve never bled as such but sex has brought on my period before so I know I am a little bit sensitive there. I have PCOS and examinations have never flagged anything on my cervix but I know pregnancy changes everything so I’ll get them to check again this week when I have my scan...they couldn’t see anything obvious in the last two scans.

@RedPandaFluff Oh it’s horrible isn’t it! With the first bleed I was sat in the woman’s ward/EPU waiting room and I heard a newborn crying.
I started sobbing uncontrollably, this poor woman shut the door for me and started stroking my hand to calm me down with my boyfriend the other side doing the same. This has made me realise and appreciate the kindness of strangers a lot more! I found that chart as well, was obsessed with it for the first 12 weeks. Oh wow!!! A Christmas baby Xmas Smile

I’m going to have a (lukewarm) bath and try and just relax for the rest of the day as there’s nothing I can do right now.

Hi there. Just came across this and though id comment.

Im 19 weeks and on friday i had light bleeding/spotting when i wiped after going to the toilet (i had constipation and really strained and struggled with a bowel movement) yet i had vaginal spotting after. Ive did a little reading up and sounds likely i may have cervical erotion (which a previous post on here has mentioned). Im just montoring mine at the moment as its very light specks of faint brown. I have no pain either. But my scan is next week so im hoping that will reassure me. Bleeding could also be a sign of infection so if ever in doubt mention it to a midwife. Wishing you the best during your pregnancy x

Had some bleeding yesterday evening (15+6 weeks) but no pain/cramping and went online and found some mumsnet threads on the topic so understood that a bit of bleeding can be normal in pregnancy.

Visited midwife today and they found the heartbeat so all seems ok.

Just wanted to say that the mumsnet forums really helped calm me down! Thanks

I'm currently 24 weeks and have started having small bleeds around 18 weeks. First one wasn't lots but enough that I wore a liner and a couple tiny clots - always first thing in the morning. No real cramping, etc. This has come around once a week since then, usually gets lighter until it turns pink with discharge when wiping (TMI I know!). I had it checked at 18 weeks and they looked at my cervix and it definitely is an ectropion. It's so stressful when it keeps happening but I'm reassured that I can feel him wriggling and kicking now so I know it's nothing too bad! If it turns fresh red then I would obviously be worried or heavier. It does seem to have gotten better this last week so hopefully that's it not being as sensitive. Mines is definitely triggered by any sort of stretches, exercise and when he has a bit of a growth spurt I reckon but nothing to prove that lol. Hope that helps a bit and that's just what you have! x

Try not to worry, have they looked for a haematoma (basically a bruise on the lining of the womb which can cause bleeding)? I had a bleed at 6 weeks, 11 weeks and 16 weeks all caused by the haematoma. All very scary as I've had 2 losses in the past 12months but I'm now 20weeks and all is good.
