Late but tests say not pregnant

I'm usually to the day on time with my period. I have tracked them my whole life. I know my cycle, ovulation etc

I'm 9 days late.

I did a test at +4, +7 and just now. All negative.

There was a bit of a condom incident a couple of weeks ago but as it was only four days before my period was due I thought it would probably be ok. I realise that I should have been more careful and all of that but I wasn't.

What now? Is this just a thing that happens? What should I do?

Just wait until you are two weeks late and test then

MrsSokhi · 08/12/2019 14:00

It's unlikely to be that your pregnant if you were due on a few days later.
You usually conceive half way through your cycle, you'd have been towards the end of yours.
It's perfectly normal for your cycle to be late and the cause can be many different things, if you've done a test (not a cheap one) and your 9 days late I think your ok xx

AlecOrAlonzo · 08/12/2019 18:24

That's definitely not pregnant. Isn't it?

I feel like I can see a very faint line. Try using a first response, they’re much more reliable and pink dye is better than blue

newlymarried2019 · 08/12/2019 19:26

Hi ladies,

Can anyone advise whether they've been in a similar situation: I'm currently a week late, due AF last Sunday. Have tested almost daily with cheap Internet strips and Co tinue to get a BFN.
I have some symptoms like sore boobs, bloating, extreme tiredness...but not sure if this can be just be out down to stress at work and not having had AF yet.

Has anyone gone later than 7 days without a BFP yet still actually been pregnant?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next? DH suggests waiting a week to do another test and then making a doctors appt if we don't see any change.. To me that seems like FOREVER away!!

🙁

Robs20 · 08/12/2019 19:38

I can see a faint line on that test too, but would expect it to be much clearer at this stage if you were pregnant. Can you take a frer in the morning?

cookiesandcream24 · 08/12/2019 20:26

I recently found out I was pregnant and test didn't show up until 10 days after my missed period!!! Shock I was also convinced this couldn't happen either. I tested pretty much every day up until then. And quite sure it doesn't matter which kind of test you use, clear blue or the pound shop they all do the same thing Grin

Keep testing OP!

MrsSokhi · 08/12/2019 20:51

@newlymarried2019 @AlecOrAlonzo use a first response they are the most trusted one. I've heard the blue ones have a tendency to run if it's not digital.

AlecOrAlonzo · 08/12/2019 23:04

Ok. Will get FR tomorrow.

Surely it would be showing something definitely by now?

Ffs??!!

I see a line on the cb

Fx for the result you want.

AlecOrAlonzo · 10/12/2019 07:04

Ok, am now 11 days late. Just done a First Response rest.

Negative?

OP I’m sorry but I can see a (very) faint line on that one too. Could you ask a GP to test your HCG levels for you (it may provide reassurance). I’ve had chemicals that have delayed my cycles, but am also currently pregnant with a wee one that definitely doesn’t match my ovulation pattern (EDD by dates is 2.5 weeks prior to EDD by scans).

Being in limbo is hard. Hope you are ok as can be. Xx

AlecOrAlonzo · 10/12/2019 07:56

I'm not ok. Dh thinks I'm overthinking. I can't believe this is happening. I wish it was more definitive. Should I see a GP? Are their tests better?

I can also see a very faint line on the FR.

My advice would be to take another FR in a couple of days and see if it's progressed at all. If yes then you're definitely pregnant. If still very feint or negative and still no sign of period I'd call the doctor. The doctors tests aren't as sensitive as a FR but a blood test would tell you your HCG levels (they normally take them 48hrs part to see an increase)

There are lots of reasons the tests are showing up so far after your missed periods. We very very rarely know our exact date of ovulation so if it's much later than you think that would effect when a test would show positive.

Easier said then done but please try and relax. Leave it until at least Thursday morning (longer if you can) and do another FR xxx

Moonstone12 · 10/12/2019 08:14

I've popped up a photo of my line progression. First one was incredibly feint. Second 24hrs later (I couldn't take my own advice to wait 48hrs 😂) was much clearer. HTH xx

I can see the line. I’d wait a couple of days and take another, see if the line has progressed.

You can always ring the doctor for an appointment to have bloods taken but doctors appointments are like gold around Christmas time!

Everyone’s HCG levels rise differently and yours just might be a little slow. Fingers crossed for you!

november90 · 10/12/2019 13:34

It might be that you ovulated slightly later then normal this month (despite being normally very regular) meaning that although AF is late, it's still early testing hence why the lines are faint! Stick with the first response tests with your first morning wee! Let us know how you get on, I hope you get your answer ASAP!

MrsSokhi · 10/12/2019 18:43

@AlecOrAlonzo sorry but that's a positive result. I know it's not what you want but given how faint the line is you'll be very early on so loads of time to decide what your options are xx

AlecOrAlonzo · 10/12/2019 19:30

Period has arrived!

Must just have been late. No idea what the faint lines are about. They are really, really faint so maybe just a mistake?

OP posts:
Monstamio · 10/12/2019 19:42

I'm glad you got the result you wanted in the end, but both those tests were positive. Unless you are nearing the menopause or have certain rare medical conditions, I suspect that you ovulated later than usual and had a fertilised egg, due to the condom incident, which briefly implanted. It didn't stick which is why the lines were so faint and why AF eventually arrived. It's what's called a chemical pregnancy.

AlecOrAlonzo · 10/12/2019 20:27

Do I need to see a doctor about a chemical miscarriage or will it just pass? Do I need to do anything?

OP posts:
MrsSokhi · 10/12/2019 20:51

@AlecOrAlonzo no you don't, some women never know they've had a chemical pregnancy unless they do a test x

AlecOrAlonzo · 10/12/2019 21:18

Thanks for all your help. This has been such a stressful couple of weeks. I feel like I can breathe again.
