Maternity clothes question

wondering7777 · 08/12/2019 08:23

I’m 19 weeks pregnant now and need to buy some maternity clothes, as my regular stuff is starting to feel a bit snug! However, at this point my bump obviously isn’t massive.

My question is - if I buy new things now, will I just keep outgrowing them as my bump gets bigger? Or do high street maternity clothes come in specific sizes for second and third trimester?

Thanks!

Hi Wondering and congratulations on your pregnancy!
Most maternity clothes have adjustable waistlines/ side ties are pretty free fitting to begin with so they will expand to fit you for the whole of your pregnancy. Some tops are even adapted for nursing so you can continue to wear them postpartum if you like. Jeans tend to have those adjustable button holes on the waistband like lots of children’s clothes do and some tops are ruched with ties at the side / wraparound or very stretchy. There’s some really lovely things around atm and with the sakes coming up you should get some bargains!

Start off with your normal size or smaller. You may well then need to go up a size or two as pregnancy progresses.

Very few places actually stock maternity wear as more (which is infuriating), so order online, get it delivered into store in a couple of sizes, try them on there and then, and return what you don't want to keep. It's annoying but the only way.

I second H&M for maternity clothes as well, they are fantastic!

Agree with pp about H&M! I found there were sone good bargains in the january sales, even at places like seraphine which are a little pricy at full price.

For jeans, you may find you need to try on quite a few before you find ones that ate just right. I found the ones with stretchy "over the bump" fabric so comfy, and they fitted right up to 41 weeks pregnant.

If you wear skirts/dresses for work a few pairs of maternity tights/leggings are useful as your bump gets bigger

Just buy your normal size and the clothes will grow with your bump. I love Gap for maternity stuff.

Great, thanks everyone! I’m in London so might head down to the big H&M near Oxford Circus next week. I think I’ll check out Topshop and M&S (for maternity tights!) too!
