My little girl is 5 weeks plus 2 days old. I cannot get her to focus or look at either myself or objects, it doesnt matter how close I get she still refuses to look in the direction of my face or the object, not even for a second. I am probably being overly paranoid but is this normal at this age or should I be concerned? She had her eyes checked after birth as part of the standard routine checks they carry out on newborns, would this have shown if she had problems with her vision?
Any advice welcome please.

Hi OP, my son now 10 displayed the exact same symptoms you are describing, he essentially wouldn't or couldn't fix and follow objects, faces or anything. I pushed for a refferal and he was diagnosed with something called Delayed Visual Maturation. It is rare but basically over the next few weeks he caught up and started seeing things, like a switch just went off. First he started to see me from far away and then gradually kept the focus as I moved closer. By 12 weeks I was pretty happy he was seeing normally and everything else followed. He started smiling etc. He saw the eye clinic for 2 years on and off to make sure he was doing well and no further issues before being signed off and he in now a 10 year old with no visual problems.
I'm not saying this is what your daughter has but maybe mention it to a health visitor or ask for a refferal to an eye clinic, it's a rare disorder so not many will have heard of it outside of the specialists.
