Constipation and bleeding - do I need anti-D?!

Warning, this post contains TMI....

I’m almost 20 weeks pregnant and have had quite bad constipation recently. Last night I bled bright red blood during a bowel movement. I’ve had this occasionally before (prior to getting pregnant). I’m absolutely certain that the bleeding was from my “back passage” not my vagina. However, I’m worried because my blood group is rhesus negative. Is there any chance I could have ruptured something internally causing my blood to mix with the baby’s? I know that you’re meant to get an anti-D injection within 72 hours if you have a fall that you think could cause internal bleeding. Please help!

Ring the hospital and ask them. Smile

Which department would I ring?

If is definitely from the back passage & happened because you were straining to poo you will not need anti-D

The emergency number in your maternity notes.

Thanks @Nanmumandmidwife - that’s what I thought but just wanted to double check!

Wow this didn’t even cross my mind . I’ve also had the bleeding due to constipation. I’m pretty sure it’ll just be tearing at the back so surely no danger of the blood coming in contact with baby.

@Comps83 are you rhesus negative as well? It sounds like nothing to worry about from what Nanmumandmidwife said - I’m just overthinking things as per usual!

Yeah I am. Well done for being on the ball though.

Does it hurt while going to the toilet, as in, quite a sharp, stinging like pain? And does it hurt afterwards? The chances are it’s a tear around the exit from your poo being too solid! I suffer with constipation and it happens sometimes! The pain is quite eye watering when it does though!

It hurts a bit but not too much (thankfully!) but the sight of blood in the toilet and when wiping freaked me out a bit! Like I say, it was definitely from the "rear end" though. This thread is so TMI - apologies!
