Hi I've just had my 20 week scan the baby looks to be totally healthy but need another scan in two weeks because my little monkey would not let her get some measurements, she pointed out I had a low lying placenta and that I need to be scanned again at 32 weeks but that's it, what does it mean? Has anyone had this and its moved intime for a natural birth? I'm a little scared now he is an ivf baby not sure if that makes a difference thank you in advance x

Any bleed go to the hospital. I had an EMCS at 34 weeks and was in hospital from 27 weeks after a massive bleed. All ok now and he is 24 and in the RAF.
Take it easy.

The lower part of the uterus grows the most from now on, so most commonly the placenta will appear to have "moved" by 32 weeks because the part of the uterus between it and the cervix has grown. The important thing is to check that it is clear of the cervix at that time of birth. This is probably going to be something that resolves itself, so try not to worry about it. It is only an issue if the placenta is so low that it is on the cervix and so could be damaged as the cervix dilates.

Thank you it's so hard not to worry we have waited so long for him, do you mind me asking if you had a section for some reason the thought terrifies me x

My placenta was low lying until quite late in my pregnancy but it did move in time and I had a natural birth.

Mine was low lying and I was rescanned at 32,36 and 38 weeks. By the 38 week scan it had moved. Try not to worry. easier said than done, I did all the worrying and googling)

Mine was low lying at 20 weeks. It moved by the time of the extra scan and I had a natural home birth.

I vaguely remember the consultant or possibly the midwife saying most do move but I can’t remember the exact conversation.

Thank you I feel much better now Smile just need to pray it moves x
