Anyone had a elective c section at 37 weeks? I'm smaller before pregnancy for my age & first pregnancy with a little girl. Thinking of this options, opinions?

What would your reasoning be to have a section at 37 weeks? Have you been advised it isnt worth waiting any longer than 37 weeks by an consultant, i.e. for risk infection?

Usually ELCS are performed at 39 weeks because the risks associated with sections are much greater pre 39 weeks; e.g. at 37 weeks there is a 15% risk of respiration morbidity

Hi, I don’t know about where you are but where I am they won’t do them before 39 weeks. Not even by a day. You might be struggling to get someone to agree to that. I’m currently booked in for the 23rd December and have two small children at home. Absolutely dreading the idea of possibly missing Christmas but cannot get them to budge on the 39 week rule.

My best friend recently had a csection at 37 weeks - here’s was a high risk IVF baby though.

Unless there's a medical need they won't perform before 39 weeks here either, I had reduced movements and was bang on 39 weeks when DS was delivered.

@lyd4165 you could do an early Xmas with yourself first two. Their last hurrah before you're a family of five?

@sendhalp that’s actually a very good idea! We let them have the tree up and decorations etc mid November just so they would definitely get a decent chunk of Christmas excitement to themselves before hand.

Awww glad you like the idea. It will probably be nice to do something especially for them before their little sibling comes along!
