Could it be twins?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently 12+1 weeks and have my 12 week scan booked for Monday morning. I've refrained from having a private scan as I wanted to wait until 12 weeks to make sure everything is ok so fingers crossed. This also means that I have no idea how many are in there...

I'm tall at 5'10", 34 years old and was a size 10-12 before pregnancy. Now since about 6-7 weeks I've had a bump and now I'm 12 weeks I'm in full maternity wear. I look huge and I'm struggling to hide my bump at work! I didn't have terrible morning sickness just queasiness which has eased off, however my boobs are still very sore.

My husband is 6'5" so my baby could be very long. I did crack open 2 eggs (on separate occasions) which had double yolks (an old wives tale) and twins do run in my husband's family.

I know I have to wait for the scan to be sure but would love to hear others experiences x

The hormones cause terrible bloatiness! Especially in the first trimester. I had a huge ‘bump’ but it consisted of water I guess. And went down a bit, then steadily started to grow ‘properly’. The baby is around 5cm at 12 weeks, so 2 babies wouldn’t cause a massive bump I doubt. BUT obviously you have chance of twins like any of us.

Congratulations!

Hodge85 please let us know how you get on on Monday. I am only 8 weeks but my stomach looks like it’s carrying a 6month baby in there. I also never have sickness and this is my fifth pregnancy and I’m vomiting frequently! Not the best feeling in the world. I have a scan on Monday as I had a previous miscarriage, so I’m looking forward to see what the situation will be. Good luck

Hi OP, I am currently expecting twins. Twins actually are only hereditary on the women’s side so if they run in your husbands family, this won’t increase your chances at all. I can’t comment on the egg yolks!!!
I had nothing to suggest I was expecting two in the early weeks; I actually felt like I was sailing through as I was never sick. I did however have a rotten metallic taste in my mouth that would never, ever go away which apparently had something to do with the high levels of hormones.
As others have said - bloating early on is also super, super common - but again, you never know! Let us know how you get on at the scan!

It will be bloat as baby is very very tiny at this stage... Even if there is two. Good luck though not long to find out

GinAndTings · 04/12/2019 14:50

Congratulations OP! Let us know after you have had your scan, I didnt show with my twins properly until 19 weeks!

Hodge85 · 05/12/2019 09:15

I will! I'm super excited but also really nervous, I just hope everything is ok. No-one ever really prepares you for the worry you feel, I didn't realise I'd be constantly checking for spotting and questioning every twinge!

It would be lovely if it was twins but obviously happy either way x

Hi OP- how did your scan go? x

Hodge85 · 11/12/2019 10:56

Hi @Orangeandlemon, it went well thank you! There's only 1 in there Grin the little one was waving and bobbing around. Wouldn't keep still for scan pictures so they're a little blurry hehe. It was a lovely experience, it's so hard to believe there's a little baby growing inside. As much as I'm excited, I have thyroid problems and I've been told I'll need extra scans to make sure baby is ok. Nothing but a worry but I guess this is the start of being a Mum Smile x

That's great OP, congratulations!

I have thyroid problems too, but first pregnancy was ok, so don't worry too much. As long as you are under the care of a doctor, you and baby will be absolutely fine. All the best x

It’s possible but it might not be.
I’m 16 weeks and 2 days pregnant with twins and I don’t have a bump yet. This is second pregnancy and I’m barely showing.
