Hi all, bit of a TMI question here I'm afraid.

Since this morning I've had a thin, watery brownish discharge on pantyliners but nothing when I wipe. Not enough to use a proper pad. Doesn't sound like much but it got my attention as it's different to what I usually have, which is just white/milky etc.

I spoke to my midwife earlier and her opinion was not to worry and ring the maternity unit if it got heavier or turned red.

For context I'm 36 weeks and baby is moving as normal and measuring fine. Anyone have any experience of this??

I think there's pads that chanbge colour if it's amniotic fluid. Try those?

Had no idea it could be amniotic fluid, thanks for the heads up. Quick google and looks like Boots do those pads (Amniosense) so will try to get some tonight.

Hi Op,
Just a reassurance post but I had exactly the same at 35-36 weeks, a browner heavier discharge. Midwife said it was “fairly typical”, she asked to see a pic (sorry TMI) and said that it likely wasn’t waters or fluid, not an infection but just a hormonal change. I’m now 37+ weeks and it’s gone back to a white colour! Worried me at the time but only lasted a few days.
Have had (unrelated/scheduled) scans/monitoring since and little one is doing fine! Hope this helps.

I had something similar the day I went into labour at 42 weeks - the midwife said it was the mucus plug and the fire waters - and it was very thick and very Brown.

But sounds like it might not be and your midwife willl know best.

Good luck!

@MissingCoffeeandWine thanks, that's really reassuring. I guess I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I've got my next midwife appointment on Thursday anyway, so I'll get a picture if she's likely to need to see it (feel so gross taking a picture of the contents of my pants, never thought I'd be doing that...)
