what age do you put your lo in cot instead of moses basket

our dd is 8 weeks now and growing fast
think shes gonna grow outta mb soon
sob i think she will have to go in her nursery then on her own

My ds was in his moses basket until he was about 12 weeks then we moved him from the basket in our room to the cot in his own room.

DD went into her cotbed straight away from day 1. Didn't see the point of the moses basket.

how did you get on moving your lo was it really difficult my DS is 11 wks and we are thinking of moving him onto his cot when we return from holiday in 2 weeks time. He already sleeps in his cot for daytime naps - well when I say sleep he catnaps and am worried this will be the problem when we put him in there at night as presently he goes down at 8pm in his moses basket and wakes only once in the night.

Basically scared he is going to be up all night.

I'm with Gemy, we coslept for a month then she went into a cotbed.

Juliewoolie - he'll sleep much better in a cotbed if you swaddle him. Also don't be scared about the transition, babies memories are crap until they are nine months so he won't remember within 48 hours that the moses basket exists!

I moved the basket from our room into the cot in the room next door at 10 weeks and she slept there for 2 weeks before I put her straight into the cot. I think it eased the transition.

I did get a few looks at postnatal for moving her out of our room so early but we were disturbing her and she would wake me up every time she moved or made a sound.

Once she moved we all slept better. I just invested in a good monitor and experimented with the volume for a few days until I got it so I could hear her cry out but would not wake up if she was just shuffling about.

dd was in a moses basket until just recently (so about 4 months) tho we always put the moses basket into the cot at night iyswim. The changover was fine, didn't bother her at all. We started using grobags once we moved her into the cot and she seems to love it. HTH

Oh yes - and we had a cot divider called a "safababy" which makes the cotbed shorter and gives a solid end if you cot has slatted ends so they have a good end for the feet to foot position. It also made the space smaller as we felt basket - cot bed was a bit of a difference spacewise and wanted to do it gradually.

DS hasn't got his own room yet but we moved him from mb into travel cot in our room at 10 weeks as we were going on hols at 12 weeks and wanted him to be used to it (not because he wasn't comfortable in mb). Not had any problems at all and he didn't seem to notice the change.

my ds is a giant, so we had no choice but to move him into own room at 11 weeks - by then there was about an inch all round him in his basket ! wish we could've moved the cot instead...

he had daytime naps in his cot so the transition was no problem at all, he went straight in and slept better as he had room to stretch out and loves playing with his cot toys and talking to his mobile !

As nipplesonfire said, swaddling will help sleeping and that babies do have crap memories - in a day or two she'll be like "what is that basket thing?"

well i guess what worries me most is the cotbed will have to stay in dd room
theres no room for her cotbed in our room

and i want her in our room for as long as poss

I moved my DD (now 11 weeks) at seven weeks, although with holidays etc she has been in with us again for a week and a half. We've all slept better since then, and in the last week or so she has been sleeping all night

My DS was with me till he was a year old, but only cos I had a one bedroom flat.

I kept both of mine in the basket until they were practically bursting out of it! I found it so convenient - easy to shove in the car - didn't take up much room sothen could sleep near me wherever I was - bliss. Then they went onto futons in their rooms. I bypassed the cot stage compeletly and I found it worked brilliantly.

I moved dd from her moses basket into a cotbed in our room at about 9/10 weeks. She likes to move around alot and kept banging her hands and arms on the sides of the basket so thought it was time! She did not seem to even notice the change. She sleeps in her cotbed for all naps and through the night. She started sleeping through the night at about 3 months. Now does it most nights although is awake at about 4.30 some mornings. Travel cot is a good idea if not much space for cotbed - we only just have enough room on my side for me to shuffle between bed and cot! She is now 19 weeks and I'm thinking of moving her into her own room. the only reason I havent is me - not sure I want her away from me in the night in case anything happens! We have a good monitor though so no reason why I shouldnt! Good luck whatever you decide. x

Both my dd went staight into a cot. I didnt have a moses basket and or the space for both. I did use the flat crib type part of my 3in1 travel system (pram) dring the day but at night it was cot from day one for both of them.

My DS was 8 months old, he wasn't keen at first, and ended up spending more time in bed with us (shoot me down for co-sleeping) than anywhere else!

DD was in a moses basket in our room until we went on hols when she was 4 months old and she slept in a travel cot while we were away. She seemed very happy in it so when we got home we started putting her in her cot. Her room is 90 degrees to ours, and both very small rooms so she wasn't very far away and I could hear every little peep. But we all slept better for it.

I'm not against co-sleeping in any way, but I really don't know how people do it! I just can't sleep with DD in the bed with me. When she was newborn I was far too worried I'd squash her and just couldn't get comfy. And if we put her in the bed with us now, she's all elbows and knees and climbing about (she'll be 2 on Sat) so no-one gets any sleep!
