Very early baby movements with first pregnancy

I’m pregnant with my first and have been feeling what I think are baby movements from around 16.5 weeks. Not very many, but it’s the occasional “bubble” feeling, like a fish flipping in my stomach.

From what I’ve read it’s quite unusual to feel movements so early on with a first baby - did anyone else have this? Of course it might just be wind or a twitch! Grin

I think that's an average time to feel movements for a first. Yay! Exciting times!

I felt feelings earlier with each subsequent pregnancy

I felt movements at 17 weeks so not much further along. I always thought that's as within the normal range. Congratulations 😊

**that was

Are you very slim? It could be movements as it feels just as you describe, but it's more usually from about 18 weeks.

wondering7777 · 30/11/2019 21:09

Oh, shows how clueless I am, lol. I wasn’t expecting to feel anything till around 20 weeks!

@wondering7777 I've felt movement for about 3 weeks now and I'm 19 weeks :)

wondering7777 · 30/11/2019 21:14

Are you very slim?

My BMI was 21.6 before I started gaining some weight in the second trimester - so I’d say I’m around normal I guess. Definitely not thin!

I’m 17 weeks now with dc1 and I’ve been feeling a similar popping sensation which I think is baby for about three days now!

I felt movement at 14 weeks I kid you not. I kept doubting myself when people said it was impossible but then during a scan, I felt a movement and it matched what we saw on the screen!

Rubyroost · 30/11/2019 23:22

I felt movement at 15 weeks first time, second time 10 weeks!!

GrumpyHoonMain · 01/12/2019 04:03

I started feeling things from 14-16 weeks first preg too and assumed it was gas until the mw corrected me. I am definitely not slim but I am muscular and have very little fat over my bump - so I can feel a lot more.

wondering7777 · 01/12/2019 08:34

I think the baby is about 13cm by this point, which is quite big - so I suppose it’s not surprising that I’m starting to feel some movement around this time. I hardly have a bump at the moment though - where has my body put it?!

Normal not to have much/any bump yet at that stage.

KittyKatSmile · 01/12/2019 10:30

@wondering7777 yes I was the same! 16 weeks and a few days for little internal movements then a few weeks later for proper ones you could see and feel on the outside and now i can't stop my Tiny Dancer :-)

GrumpyHoonMain · 01/12/2019 13:22

I didn’t have a bump either. View it as a positive - women with strong abs don’t get a bump til much later usually

89redballoons · 01/12/2019 13:42

I felt movement at 16 weeks, on the same day I had to unbutton my work trousers in the afternoon because I was getting bloated around my bump Blush

My mum felt movements with me at exactly the same point. First pregnancies in both cases.

I can't imagine that I have strong abs - I've never set foot in a gym in my life! Grin

Also, the movements are still few and far between but are definitely getting more frequent I think (I'm now 18 weeks pg)!

The strong abdominal wall thing is more to do with genetics and your build than fitness level.

Namechange322 · 02/12/2019 14:25

Totally normal to feel like this. In a few weeks though you will start to feel unmistakeable movements that will become regular - i didn’t find them to feel like bubbles anymore but more distinct.

Congratulations!
