Am I in labour?

Hi everyone, I’m 39 weeks pregnant today with my second baby. I had a stretch and sweep on Monday just gone and had a few pains Tuesday night which then disappeared. I then thought my plug had gone Thursday as I was extremely goopy and thick down there (sorry tmi) but from last night I started to get contraction like pains. I’ve been getting Braxton hicks for a bit now but they just felt tight and a bit uncomfortable, but these pains actually hurt and are extremely uncomfortable, I’ve also got a really bad cough at the moment which I don’t think is helping. From about 4am this morning I woke up to a bloody show (very pink) which didn’t stop till an hour or so ago. I then kept getting these pains on and off and started to time them on my app and they were roughly coming every 10-15 mins and lasting about 30-40 seconds, I managed to fall asleep for abit, some woke me up. I’ve rang the hospital this morning and she said they’re happy for me to stay at home until they come for often and intensify a bit more. I’m still getting the pains but they’re not quite as often, id say more 20 mins/30 mins at the most. My question is do people think they are actually contractions and not still Braxton hicks? They’re definitely painful where I have to stop what I’m doing and breathe through them. Thank you

BH can be painful too but from what I've experienced they are not as bad as labour pains... I would have some paracetamol and see if it eases them and try and relax of course still time them if you can.. Fingers crossed for you it is labour x

I had a similar experience - lost my plug on the Tuesday and had pains on and off, with no pattern until Saturday. Thought they were BH so ignored, then suddenly Saturday night I heard my waters pop, arrived in hospital at 10:30pm and contractions suddenly started every 2-3 mins lasting over a minute. I had my baby girl at 4am the next morning, I was 38+1, first baby.

I can't tell you if it is the start of something but I had people tell me that it didn't sound like labour but it certainly was! Have your hospital bag ready and any childcare/dog care (we had to drop our dog off at the in laws en route to hospital!!) at the ready just in case.

Good luck!Thanks

Thank you for your replies! I had some bleeding again now it’s stopped again which midwife said might happen. Hospital bags are all packed etc. Still getting pains about every 20-30 mins or so. Just can’t see them being Braxton hicks cause of the pain but who knows. My LG is 7 so a long time since I’ve done this 😂 going to potter around my day as normal and see what happens x
