Small baby at 10 weeks

This is my first pregnancy so i am a total novice and i am worrying that there is something wrong with baby's development.

I had an early scan at 6+3 days and baby was measuring 3.4mm, we could see the heartbeat but they said that i am more like 5+3/5+5.

I went for a private scan yesterday after doing too much research and freaking myself out and i was 9+6. They had trouble getting a clear picture of baby as baby was tucked up towards to bottom of the screen. We heard the heartbeat for the first time which was amazing but when they measured baby the measurements were still coming up small - showing 8+3.

I am worried that baby is now over a week behind. If i go from when i ovulated i am 8 weeks but if i go from the first day of my last period i am 9+6.

I have my dating scan in 17 days and i am so worried that i am going to go to the scan and baby is going to be even further behind.

Has anyone else has this? if so did to end in good news?

Any help is much appreciated.

Surely calculating from when you ovulated is more accurate? Assuming you know for sure when you ovulated.

I conceived late in my cycle so going from LMP would put me about 10 days further along than I am. The size on the scans match up with when I ovulated. But if I was calculating from LMP, then the embryo would be much smaller than expected. I'm not worried as I know I didn't ovulate anywhere near day 14 of my cycle.

@misselphaba i am lucky/unfortunate that i have painful ovulation so i know the day that i am ovulating so i can pinpoint my ovulation. My cycles are on average 28 days with the occasional 30 day cycle.

i ovulated on day 14 so if i went with my ovulation date then baby would be just right with the measurements. i just thought because the midwife said we go from the first day of my last period that baby is smaller then expected at this point in the pregnancy.

its all very confusing and i don't know if i am worrying over nothing Confused

They will always go by your period date when dating baby. It's ok to be a bit behind as long as baby is growing steadily, it's very early on.

Early scan measurements can be out. Wait and see what they say at your 'dating scan' as they are more accurate measurements. At my early scan I was bang on 9 weeks at my dating scan i should of been just over 12 weeks I wasn't I was 13+1 and from there measurements have been fine. X

you need to add 14 days on to the day you ovulated because oddly for dating purposes you are two weeks pregnant before you conceive. So if you conceived 8 weeks ago you are 10 weeks pregnant.

But try not to panic. They are so tiny at that age that they can be tricky to measure and this can easily put you a week or two out. That's why the dating scan is done around 12 weeks - it is very difficult to meaure accurately before then.
