Just found out I'm pregnant, probably about 5 weeks. Anyway dont want to tell anyone yet but the community midwife has just rang with my booking in appointment which is in the middle of the day, I'm a teacher and so cant take holiday or anything but would have to tell work to have time off in the middle of the day. They also said I have to go to a group session thing at the local hub which I have never heard of in my first pregnancy (in manchester). When I spoke to the midwifes they were totally unhelpful and totally inflexible and I'm just pretty annoyed really. Just wondered if anyone had had similar and managed to change the appointment and if anyone else had heard about the group thing before and just wondering if I can possibly get out of it?? TIA

I was told about the group session and just said it wasn't suitable and I was unable to go. They were only going to talk about what to eat/not in pregnancy.

I'm also a teacher in the North East. I told work that I had a hospital appointment not what it was for. The school have to give time out for this sort of thing.

Thanks, I think I'll ring tomorrow and say about not going to the group thing then. For hospital appointments my work ask for the letter Hmm

@preggersteach I'm based in the North East- Teesside.

Group session was ok- talked through what not to eat, does and don't, exercise etc. Then had a quick 121 with a midwife for some stats- I was out within 35 min. I wouldn't say it's ESSENTIAL the group session but as it's my first I found it useful/exciting!

Booking in appointment was a lot longer 1hr +. I am not a teacher but my hubby is so understand how difficult it is with you getting time off. It's so frustrating. However, is it is a medical appointment I would just explain that to work as they should give you it off! You can always ask the midwife if you can attend the group session it school holidays( other than loads of leaflets it's nothing that couldn't wait till Christmas hols!) xxxx

@preggersteach Doctor's appointment then? It was the only one you could get. At least then you can't give evidence so surely won't have to.
