Drs and get prescribed medication for hypermesis they need to check your urine for ketones. Have you kept water down today?

Mammabear111 · 26/11/2019 17:29

I have managed to keep water down today yes I don't no if I have HG yet I am going to speak to my midwife to see if I do

Well I was "only" being sick once maybe twice a day but had no appetite and constant nausea and was diagnosed with it and given medication so I would say highly likely you have. I'd call your gp don't wait for midwife

Bol87 · 26/11/2019 17:54

Don’t go to your midwife, they can’t prescribe or officially diagnose anything. You need your GP. I have HG & without medication I’m sick 20+ a day, its horrific. But regardless of whether it’s HG or ‘just’ severe pregnancy sickness, you absolutely should seek help. Being sick multiple times & feeling badly sick 24/7 with no respite is awful. Especially if you can’t keep food & water down.

There are a whole range of meds you can take, varying in strength. Doctors tend to start you out on Cyclizine as a fist line drug. The strongest is Ondansetron. Your GP should also check your urine for ketones to check you are not dehydrated. I’ve been in hospital several times with, it’s easy to become dehydrated quite quickly!

Worth checking out the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support who have lots of advice & info on the meds available. If your doctor is difficult, you can show them all the information from the charity in support of you having some.

Love to you, it’s horrible!

@Mammabear111 plenty of women take the medication for HG and have healthy babies. Healthy you will make a healthy baby as well

Bol87 · 26/11/2019 20:34

It’s a tough choice @Mammabear111 .. but please be reassured that certainly the first line drugs have zero safety concerns. Cyclizine for example has been used for over 20 years with zero reports of any harm to baby. Ondansetron is the only anti-sickness with some possible concerns. There is a new bit of research that suggests there is tiny increase in cleft lips among ondansetron babies.

I’ve had to take the measured risk in both pregnancies. In the end, I think HG would have almost finished me off, I’d have certainly been in hospital for the majority of my pregnancy! Ondansetron is my lifesaver, stops a huge amount of my vomiting!
