Steroid shots given first today sucks. Tomorow due to looking like early section! Had first shot today in buttock! Now I'm a nurse and we don't do im in buttocks due to chance of hitting nerve but midwife wanted to do in buttock! She didn't actually do a student did , now obviously it was very painful as they are! But it felt like was put in my lower back not bum!! My partner watched and said same! Anyway I'm 7 hours on and just got out of bed and my legs are so weak! Feel like I've run a marathon so so weak also my arms even feel funny! Achey and weak obviously bum hurts still! Anyone else had this?

I felt the same first time I had steroids, was also feeling so hot and had flashed checks and chest, heart palpitation, but when I mentioned it to midwife and doctor they said no side effects. Anyways, I ended up feeling better after a few days.

It does feel really odd afterwards. It should given in the upper outer quadrant of the buttock. As a student nurse (1,000,000 years ago!) we were taught to look at the buttock, draw a cross on it and then aim for the upper outer . That avoids the sciatic nerve. If you hit that it is a different level of pain altogether.
Hope all goes well tomorrow xx

I'm a nurse - they're always given in your bum if IM

ameliathomas84 · 26/11/2019 20:54

@nespressowoo well as I said I'm also a nurse and we do not! Give im into buttocks, we give thigh, arm but avoid buttock due to nerve! This possibly be my trust I don't know, however I was also trained this way at uni I qualified in April! So maybe it's a new thing I don't know, anyway I'm not here for an argument and I don't quite know what help you're remark was on my post but thanks anyway!

We always give steroid injections in the buttock. All other IM leg/arm etc.. can't remember the reasoning but definitely go in the buttock in my trust (student midwife)

ameliathomas84 · 26/11/2019 21:26

Ye the midwifes still my hospital do as I work at same trust as I'm attending for antenatal care and will have baby there however as I said on the wards (obviously we looks part form maternity) we give thigh or arm and are told not to give buttock due to difficulty in anatomy and risks associated
