Brown discharge - reassurance

Looking for some reassurance / others experiences. I'm 11/12wks, dating scan on Thursday and it feels like every two weeks or so I get brown discharge. I've seen baby's heartbeat at 6wks+4 and 9 weeks after brown discharge and everything appeared ok. But I've just passed some really sticky brown discharge - do I have reason to be concerned if I've already seen baby's heartbeat twice? Feeling so anxious. I've had quite strong back pain every night for the past week but other than that I just don't feel pregnant.

What do you think? Am I over thinking it? It wasn't much discharge but just brown and really sticky.

Hi @firsttime20 hope you’re feeling ok.
I’m 12 + 1 wks and I had brown discharge at 4 wks and again at 10. In fact at 10 wks I had a small bleed- terrifying. I still have brown discharge now. Like you I had a scan at 6 wks and again at 10. Both times we saw a perfectly normal little jelly bean.
Neither of us have a crystal ball, but all I can say is what makes me feel better. Your odds are good- like really good. The chances of you having a bad outcome at this stage are very, very small. Remember though, give your midwife a call if you’re worried about the brown. Also I had a sore back and freaked out but then realised it was cos I’d been gardening. I also get a sore back when I’m not as active (e.g. too tired to move!!)
I hope all continues to go well for you and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Hey!
It's so hard isn't it!
I'd say relax but I know that's easier said than done!
Give your midwife a call I'm sure she will be able to put your mind at ease! Let us know how you get on xx

Try and relax, I had brown discharge and red blood and now have a healthy 18month old. Hopefully you’ll have the same outcome

Thanks everyone! Really sick of this worry, makes everything so much harder!

Will let you know how the scan goes on Thursday :)

Sorry your going through this @firsttime20 lots of people experience what you are going through and are absolutely fine. Ring midwife in the morning to get some reassurance. Perhaps try doing something to take your mind of things for the time being. Have you got a friend that can come round or put a film on?

EskewedBeef · 26/11/2019 20:27

I had brown discharge of varying gunginess on and off throughout my first pregnancy. Everything went well with no problems at all, but I clearly remember that feeling of dread every time it happened. Your midwife will reassure you, see if you can get an appointment with them soon.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/11/2019 20:30

I had this exact thing throughout both of my pregnancies, including several instances of bright red bleeding. Everything was fine, and chances are excellent it is for you, too. This is a very common occurrence, truly.

GingerRH · 26/11/2019 20:40

@firsttime20 I had brow discharge at the weekend. Brown is old blood.

Have you had sex recently?

Boots20 · 26/11/2019 20:40

During my first pregnancy with my daughter I had stringy light brown discharge from weeks 4 (actually thought it was my period, but after a week did a test as the blood never went pink/red) to week 13. Had 3 early scans because I was convinced I was having my period. Everything was normal and healthy and my daughter was born at full term.

Never happened during my following pregnancies with my boys, I always think if I had another pregnancy and the brown discharge came back I'd assume I was carrying another girl!

Boots20 · 26/11/2019 20:41

Meant to say was convinced I was having a miscarriage x

firsttime20 · 26/11/2019 20:50

Thanks everyone - this truly helps. The anxiety is really consuming, I'm hoping to get an appointment with one of the midwives that also specialises in mental health.

I have my dating scan on Thursday. I called the midwife last night about the brown discharge then and they didn't seem overly concerned! But still doesn't stop the dread. Wish I could make this dread stop 😢
