Nail polish during pregnancy

Morning - another day another question!

Has anyone stopped wearing nail polish? I've heard that they contain chemicals that are harmful to the foetus. Is this true or just more scaremongering?

Thanks!

i haven't heard that.

Never heard of that, I've carried on as usual tbh. I'd feel naked without any nailvarnish on!!!!

I've heard the same and have stopped using it. Apparently the chemicals are not in the nail polish, but in the remover .... so an option would be to keep the polish on until it chips off (just kidding)....
No idea if it's true though....

What will they think of next??

My nail varnish always smelt very different to me when I was pregnant, could tell earlier by smelling a bottle of varnish(!) before any pregnancy test.

do not worry
just don't drink the stuff

Think it's quite widely advised in US to use sparingly during pregnancy.
This is from an American site -
If you decide to use nail polish in pregnancy, we suggest you follow these guidelines:
1.Apply the polish in a well-ventilated room. Maybe stay next to an open window or door. The less you smell it, the less exposure you likely have.
2.Try to apply only one coat, not several different ones.
3.When you dry the polish, don't blow on it and inhale the fumes. Keep your hands far away and stay in a well-ventilated area.
4.The same precautions as in polishing apply when removing the polish.
5.After removing the polish, wash your hands well with soap to remove any residual polish and polish remover.

I did get told this last time & used it less often but this time I'm used as normal after 12 weeks was by.
